Steve Roberson General Manager / Co-Founder

Steve Roberson is Co-Founder and General Manager of StartUpHire where he leads the development team. Steve has a long history in web-based application development and excels in both client-side UI design and data-intensive algorithm development.

Having run a successful award winning multimedia and web development firm, Steve has a deep appreciation for the unique aspects of startup employment and the importance of hiring well.

Steve began his career at the Center for Computational Science at the US Naval Research Laboratory writing network centric software and creating algorithms to manage large image data-sets. Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech. He is a frequent speaker on web development technologies and MacOS.


Steve Fredrick Chairman / Co-Founder

Steve is a Co-Founder of StartUpHire and serves as company Chairman. Steve is also a General Partner with Grotech Ventures where he leads investments in the software, wireless, and digital media sectors. He is an active board member of several private companies and a 12-year veteran of the venture capital industry.

Steve has a unique understanding of the hiring process, challenges, and available market resources at venture-funded startups ... and the needs, frustrations, and constraints facing venture capital investors as they struggle to add value to portfolio company recruiting.

Steve earned a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, magna cum laude, from Virginia Tech. He served for many years as an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business and is a frequent speaker on entrepreneurship and venture investing.


Tony Surak Advisor/Co-Founder

Tony is a Co-Founder, Advisor and serves on the Board of the Company. Tony is currently CEO of Enterprise Social Business software company SocialSpring and has over 25 years experience as both an entrepreneur and executive at established technology companies.

As an entrepreneur, Tony has faced the challenges of finding qualified and motivated talent to work in the uncertain and fast paced world of early stage companies. Tony has also been a Co-Founder with startups which have raised venture from firms such as Sequoia, NEA, Charles River and Venrock.

Tony has an MBA from the Wharton School, MSEE from the University of Southern California and a BSEE from Virginia Tech. Tony has also served on the Board of the Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties Corporation.
