THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED This position performs scientific experimentation for research and/or development in collaboration with more senior scientific staff to support the construction and shake flask evaluation of strains for the production of bio-based chemicals and fuels. Makes detailed observations, analyzes data and interprets results, prepares brief reports or sections of reports. In collaboration with other team members, evaluates culture productivity to inform technology transfer and process scale-up to controlled fermentations. Responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to, design and implementation of improvements in aseptic operation of strain construction and strain evaluation platforms. Specific tasks that will fluctuate with the changing demands of the research project.
Bachelor?s degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular biology or related field with 3+ years? work experience, or equivalent combination, required. Other amounts of education and experience will be considered, and will determine the final level and title of the position. Successful candidates must be independent, self-motivated, well organized, and capable of self-directed day-to-day operation. Demonstrated ability in molecular biology and microbiology research techniques required. Experience with competent cell preparation, transformations, plasmid preparation, 96-well plate assays, media preparation, and tracking large sample sets required. The ability to handle multiple strains and aseptically manipulate bacteria is essential. Effective technical communication and organization of results and protocols also essential.
