Abcam, a successful and fast-growing life science company specializing in the production and sale of antibodies and related protein research tools to scientific research organizations.
To support our continued growth we are looking for a talented and driven sales professional to join our dynamic sales team. The Account Executive will cover the mid-Atlantic region, with a foucs on the NIH.
The Account Executive will be responsible for selling off-the-shelf products, custom solutions, and specialized services to Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Academic, and other research-based accounts in the mid-Atlantic region, with a focus on the NIH. This person will be responsible for delivering on company objectives and revenue targets by using a methodical and consultative selling approach. This individual must be able to understand a customer?s technical requirements and match Abcam?s product portfolio to the customer?s needs.
The successful candidate will manage all sales activities within a defined territory to: 1) develop organic sales opportunities and new business relationships at non-academic accounts within the territory and 2) grow Abcam?s core business within our existing, largely-academic, customer base. This position will require a heavy emphasis on proactively developing new business relationships to drive incremental business.
This position requires a high level of organization and attention to detail, the ability to think critically and dynamically solve problems, and a natural ability to develop customer rapport. Travel expectations: 15% overnight travel. The main focus will be building local and regional accounts within the assigned territory.
Maintain key customer relationships and develop and implement strategies for expanding Abcam?s customer base within the territory ? specifically at pharmaceutical and biotech accounts
Develop, manage, and replenish a sales pipeline ? focusing on large opportunities at industry accounts
Build customer relationships that enhance our position, competitiveness, and profitability
Promptly and professionally reply to customer inquiries and requests
Responsible for meeting individual objectives and revenue goals for the assigned territory
Prospect for new business within target market segments
Continually provide competitive intelligence, market insight, changes in customer needs/preferences, purchasing trends, and marketing effectiveness information to internal stakeholders in Management, Marketing, Product Management, etc.
Periodically attend industry conferences, networking events, tradeshows, etc. to engage customers and promote/enhance Abcam?s brand awareness in the marketplace.
Acquire and maintain knowledge of Abcam's products and services and to promote them within the assigned geography with the goal of influencing a customer?s product choice and increasing Abcam?s market share
Liaise with the Marketing team to develop, implement, and monitor marketing campaigns to reach new customer segments, promote new products/services, and close budget gaps.
Skills and Abilities:
Proven track record in commercial roles
Experience in business development and securing new business preferred
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively employ team-based selling strategies
Experience using a CRM platform for sales opportunities and activity management
Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint to track/analyze sales data and compose compelling presentations to internal stakeholders and customers
Acquire knowledge to understand Abcam?s product range, service offerings, and quoting/operational systems to portray the company in the best possible light to customers and prospects.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Laboratory or protein research experience preferred, but not required
A strong understanding of the Life Science marketplace and the ability to serve as a resource for our customers and effectively present technical information to scientists, project leaders, and other stakeholders.
Preference for candidates with demonstrable experience selling to pharma/biotech accounts in the territory
Bachelor?s degree (or equivalent experience) in Biology or related field of study preferred
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to ?close the deal? with persuasion and influence
15% overnight travel anticipated to attend trade shows, conferences etc.
