Description
The Accounting Manager reports to the Assistant Controller, supervises 2-3 staff, and is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, manage the preparation of accurate and timely accounting data and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
Coordinate with Assistant Controller on departmental efficiencies and improvements, including training and effective use of Great Plains
Work with Assistant Controller to establish, monitor, maintain & document accounting policies and procedures and internal controls
Work with teams within the Controller?s organization as well as cross-functionally with FP&A, IT, Operations, and R&D teams
Manage monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes and procedures and supporting documentation
Oversee various accounting areas including general ledger, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, payroll, accounts payable and accruals
Provide support for fluctuation analysis for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to management and external parties
Prepare, review and/or analyze account reconciliations and resolve accounting discrepancies
Assist with external audits and quarterly reviews by Big 4 accounting firm
Prepare and file sales and use tax returns
Maintain financial records in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
Develop and maintain financial databases
Provide decision support for business operations
Mentor and develop staff
Cross train with other accounting & finance personnel
Other related responsibilities as determined from time to time by management
Education and Experience
CPA designation
Bachelors degree in accounting; graduate degree desirable
Minimum of 2 years public accounting experience, Big Four a plus
Minimum of 4 years working in private industry in a supervisory accounting role, public company experience preferred
Key Competencies
Strong understanding of accounting theory
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management to maximize performance, creativity, problem-solving and results
Ability to act and operate independently to accomplish objectives and meet assigned deadlines
Organized approach with attention to detail and accuracy of work product
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency with MS Office applications, and Great Plains or equivalent accounting applications
