Acoustics Manager, Engineering uBeam

uBeam is seeking a hands-on, eager, and proven manager with a physics/EE and acoustics background focused on electromechanical transduction devices and their applications, specifically design, test, simulation, and ultrasound transducers for high power airborne ultrasonic phased array transmission systems. Candidate will report directly to uBeam?s Senior Vice President of Engineering, work in collaboration with the Senior Acoustics Technical Lead, and manage the overall success of the acoustic engineering team. Successful candidate will work within an advanced development team to conceptualize, design, numerically model, analyze, fabricate, and test optimized ultrasound power transmission systems. The New Acoustic Manager, is responsible for people management, core technology research and managing project timelines in relationship to overall company goals. We are looking for a candidate who not only has the technical skills to contribute to the development of uBeam?s technology but also has the managerial experience required to lead an extremely talented and driven team.
This role has 3 elements:
Project management for new technologies and commercialization of proven technologies
Manage all aspects of new Acoustics technology research and development, from new-to-the world technologies to more mature technologies. Transfer these technologies to products in more advances stages of development.
Manage the development of products working to schedule, budget and performance goals established in conjunction with partners in the engineering team, Acoustic Technical Lead, Systems Architect, Hardware/Software Manager, and Senior Vice President of Engineering, in keeping with goals for new products.
Prepare and maintain detail planning of project activities. This planning includes detail schedules, cost estimates and resource assignments.
Insure that all design activities are completed in accordance with our standard processes.
Coordinate activities of the project team with other engineering, and operations functions to maintain efficiency and effectiveness.
Hire, develops and coaches engineering staff in accordance with company policies and procedures, and in collaboration with the SVP of Engineering. Writes performance evaluations, participates in ranking of employees, and recommends appropriate salary increases and other job related changes per established guidelines.
Work in conjunction with other managers in the engineering department to optimize the overall performance of the organization. This may include solving issues with resources, processes and products. It may include development of long term, medium term and short term plans.
Partner in a business with others in the organization
Provide reports as required to communicate project budget and resource status to management. Monitor the progress of all product design and modification activities to insure project cost, schedule, and technical requirements are achieved. Develop contingency plans to address problems and risks encountered in project execution.
Participate in product line planning working closely with Senior Vice President of Engineering to the develop product line and define engineering project goals consistent with corporate plans and goals.
Prepare annual expense budget and monitor and controls activity to these plans

Bachelors from an accredited university in engineering or the physical sciences.
Minimum 5 years of engineering and science work in high tech industry.
Minimum 5 years as project manager and people manager.
Planning, driving, prioritizing and delivering projects and timelines to deliver to all phases of Product Lifecycle?from research to development to prototype to production to commercialization
Directing, developing, and motivating employees.
Dealing with tough business problems.
Strong business acumen.

Candidate must have the ability to stand and sit for an extended period of time.
May require heavy lifting up to 40 lbs
Work may involve exposure to chemicals used in processing, such as solvents and epoxies.
This position is based in Santa Monica, CA
Experience in working with product marketing to understand customers and define products.
Advanced degree in acoustic science or material science.
Significant Engineering or Science experience in one of the following areas
Electromechanical Transducer Design (eg. Medical Imaging, MEMS actuators and sensors, high frequency loudspeakers)
Acoustic or MEMS device manufacturing processes
Testing of materials and devices in acoustics
PMP Certification in project management from PMI.
MBA or MEM (or MsEM, i.e. Masters of Engineering Management)
