Job Qualifications (basic job description):
Position involves execution of system-level design and overseeing of engineering work on small spacecraft ranging from CubeSats to MicroSats. This individual will fill the Chief Engineer role on small-spacecraft development programs. Must have grasp of power, mechanical, thermal, AD&CS, payload integration, software, communications, orbital mechanics, and launch. Satellite or assembly, validation, and testing in a lean, budget constrained environment.
Designs spacecraft and spacecraft missions to accomplish mission or carry payload. SMAD-level design of all major systems on spacecraft including: power, mechanical, thermal, AD&CS, payload integration, software, communications, and launch.
Responsible for spacecraft prototyping, subsystem validation and verification, system level testing, and flight-quality fabrication. Hands-on prototyping and fabrication.
Oversees technical documentation and quality assurance record keeping. Provides support to Program Manager and Principal Investigator in preparation of customer reports.
Contributes technical expertise on business development efforts and in support of proposal generation on constrained timelines.
Balance multiple projects while maintaining organization and high quality of work.
Minimum Requirements (education and experience):
Undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering, MS degree is a plus.
4-6 years of industry or academic experience with design, assembly, and testing of spacecraft.
Flight and operations experience a plus.
Facility with software tools including Solidworks, Matlab, STK required.
Experience with FEA for thermal or mechanical analysis is a plus.
Experience with validation and verification of spacecraft or spacecraft payloads.
Ability to occasionally travel to customer meetings and test sites.
Ability to work in a clean lab/hardware lab environment on assembly of electromechanical systems.
