Job Qualifications (basic job description):
Serve as a member of a design team providing conceptual design for engineering review and direction to drafting-design personnel. Primary product lines for design activities will be unmanned aircraft, modification of existing aircraft structures, fixed and rotary wing, and design-to-build activities for commercial and military aircraft.
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
Strong experience with aerodynamics and performance analysis.
Strong experience or working knowledge of propulsion, structures, stability and control, mass properties, subsystems, and other aircraft design disciplines.
Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks or CATIA).
Experience with Matlab and object oriented programming.
Experience with multidisciplinary design optimization tools and design environments.
Commitment to learning the craft of aircraft conceptual design through openness, research, and hard work.
Maintain, update and utilize Aurora's aircraft conceptual design software. Adapt and extend tools to new design challenges. Write code for all aircraft design disciplines.
Set up aircraft optimization and design of experiments.
Estimate aerodynamiccharacteristics and performance of new aircraft designs.
Estimate mass properties of new aircraft.
Perform airframe structural configuration layout and intial sizing.
Generate CAD models and drawings at top level aircraft assembly and component levels. Draw details of the design such as structural layouts, engine integration, subsystem integration, and payloads. Show how the aircraft and support systems fit into containers for storage and transportation.
Rapidly produce han sketches of concepts during internal and external design meetings. Translate the sketches to CAD models.
Conduct market analysis and competitive analysis.
Communicate with customers through informal and formal presentation.
Write proposals to secure funding for new aircraft designs.
Work within an integrated design team and lead cross-discipline trade studies.
Minimum Requirements (education and experience):
BS in Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university, advanced degrees desired.
0-3 years work experience in the Aerospace industry or related field.
Knowledge of CAD.
Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a clearance.
Ability to maneuver around equipment in test labs and on aircraft. Some travel required.
