451 Research is looking for an analyst to join the Data Management and Analytics team as part of the Information Management Research practice. This role provides an exciting opportunity for a knowledgeable professional with excellent communication skills and a strong interest in the business and technical evolution of the database industry, especially as it relates to NoSQL, NewSQL and cloud databases, as well as Apache Hadoop and other ?big data? technologies. There will be opportunities to work on new research projects, as well as to review the technologies and strategies of companies across the globe.
451 Research is an independent technology industry analyst company, focused on the business of enterprise IT innovation. Headquartered in New York, the company has multiple offices around the world, including London, Boston and San Francisco. The successful candidate would need to liaise frequently with team members located in Europe and attend events and conferences in both Europe and North America, but the role itself is not tied to a specific location.
?At least 3-5 years working experience in the area of databases and/or IT or a closely related field (such as research analyst, IT journalism etc).
?Proven ability to write and speak in clear English.
?Excellent analysis and writing skills
?A strong passion for appropriate areas of information technology (such as NoSQL, Hadoop, cloud databases)
?The ability to communicate their impact on consumers and the enterprise
?The ability to prepare thorough and well-organized reports with little oversight
?Strong presentation skills, comfortable with both small and large audiences
?Strong collaboration skills ? a team player that is also comfortable working on their own
?Comfortable working in a fast-paced, continuously changing coverage area
?The capability and interest in establishing oneself as an influential speaker and thinker, and building relationships with industry executives and end users
?Willingness to travel
Education and experience:
This position requires sufficient educational or work experience to have obtained expertise in the industries and technologies being covered. Most 451 Research analysts come from a background as a practitioner, vendor, consultant, researcher, analyst, or technical journalist. The expectation is that this will be the equivalent of five to ten years of working in the fields covered, accompanied by an undergraduate degree or four years? additional professional experience. Strong writing, communication and people skills are a must.
