Job Description
The Application Specialist?s primary responsibilities are to serve as the first customer-facing support resource for the digital PCR product line. In this evolving role, the successful candidate will utilize his/her application and customer management skills to support pre-launch market development activities, including internal and external beta programs and ?proof of principle? studies. During this period, the candidate will serve a vital interface role between the customer and RainDance R&D, Engineering and Manufacturing personnel.
With launch of the system, the candidate will provide direct support to early customers through a variety of methods including phone and e-mail inquiries, web, print, seminars, training events, lab based outcomes, one-on-one engagements, and speaking opportunities.
The candidate is also expected to serve as the applications expert to assist the customer in developing new assays on the system and to train additional Specialists are they are brought on to support the product. The Application Specialist role requires exceptional time management, organizational skill, technical expertise and personal presence.
It is expected that this role will transition to a field position in the future.
The ideal candidate will have the proven ability to engage customers and represent the technical capabilities of the digital PCR system and the RainDance microdroplet technology. The objectives of these engagements are to educate and resolve customer inquiries so that they can utilize our technology for their research. We are looking for someone with a proven ability to deliver excellence in customer support and training.
This position requires extensive customer interaction; therefore strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Application Specialist?s responsibilities, include:
Development of training materials to support internal and external beta programs including processing of customer samples for internal beta program and proof of principle demonstrations
Educate customers on the capabilities of the RainDance dPCR system and the commercially released applications
Provide technical and applications assistance in response to customer inquiries
Provide expertise in developing/implementing new assays on the dPCR system.
Provide initial training to customers at their own laboratory and at the RainDance facility.
Provide detailed application and product feedback to internal teams at RainDance, including providing?Voice of the Customer?
Maintain the highest level of integrity with all customer interactions
Demonstrate excellence in the development and delivery of technical presentations, scientific discussions and product demonstrations
This position is anticipated to require travel at 25-30%, although this is likely to be higher during the initial sales ramp for the product.
Other tasks as reasonably requested by the Company
QUALIFICATIONS:
MS degree / PhD in life sciences or equivalent
3+ years? experience in Applications, Technical Support or equivalent in genomics field
Strong scientific background including nucleic acid analysis work experience
Demonstrated laboratory skills regarding assay development and/or processing samples on qPCR or dPCR systems;
Strong customer relationship and remote troubleshooting skills are a must
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to identify and solve problems effectively
Able to anticipate and diffuse critical/potentially volatile customer situations
Team-oriented contributor
Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic
Self-directed with strong initiative
Strong experience working in a laboratory environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;Fluent in written and verbal English
Strong understanding of multi-cultural communication styles
Basic understanding of instrument systems (hardware, block diagram electronics, computer OS)
Demonstrated understanding of commonly-used data analysis software applications required; bioinformatics experience desirable
Experience in a rapidly growing organization a plus
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and similar standard productivity tools
Must be available up to 25-30% travel that includes over-night stays
