Roles and responsibilitiesThe Applications Team Manager will lead a team of front-end engineers that will develop and support the Quill web application. Quill will provide our Content Architects a complete end-to-end user experience for configuring automated generation of insight and reports from data. The Applications Team will also be responsible for building public facing applications to demonstrate the capabilities of Quill and allow us to better engage our customers.
In your role, you will be responsible for working closely with our Product Team and Lead UX Designer. Your mission will be to implement the very best possible user experience given input from Product on business requirements, deliverable needs and UI design. From there, you will help deliver on the entire software development lifecycle, including development, release, test, launch and support. Moreover, as leader of the Applications Team, you will be concerned with overall performance, scalability and reliability of the applications your team builds. Thus, you will be responsible for forecasting and management of end-to-end capacity as well as operating costs of your team?s deliverables.

Have a strong understanding of front-end development. You must have past experience working as a software development engineer and experience building and launching several web applications. As we are a cloud-based company running on open-source software, the ideal candidate will also have experience developing and operating applications in cloud environments. You should also be comfortable working in Linux and working with a variety of technologies. You will enjoy keeping your technical skills reasonably current, to the point that you can still contribute to architecture discussions. You will regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.
Have strong project & product management experience. The successful candidate will help Product create roadmaps for the team. You will need excellent technical project management skills to assist in delivery of the product roadmap. Experience with Agile methodologies is an advantage.
Know how to run a tight, lean, efficient operation. The right candidate will want to measure everything and be very data driven. You will excel at using metrics, monitoring and alarming to measure and improve the operational processes and performance of their team.
Skill set- Bachelor?s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Have real, hands-on experience building feature-rich, interactive web applications
- 2+ years experience managing multiple direct reports
- 5+ years of relevant experience as a front-end engineer
- Capable of talking architecture and driving requirements with back-end engineers,
- Ideal candidates will have experience with Python, Ruby or another scripting language
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
- Demonstrated development team building and people management skills
- Demonstrated ability to attract and retain top engineering talent
- Strong leadership and excellent general management skills
- Strong project-management skills and proven track record for product delivery
- Strong visual design sense and excellent taste
