LAYEREDTECH is looking for a talented, energetic AppLogic Engineer capable of working in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities will include pro actively managing systems for a variety of clients including some of the fastest growing companies and Fortune 500 companies. Client environments will vary from single-server to complex, high availability, highly secure configurations spanning multiple technologies. Qualified candidates will maintain an ongoing relationship with LAYEREDTECH clients; keeping them updated on system performance, working through issues, and discussing growth paths. Responsibilities will also include serving as second-level support, staying abreast of new technologies, and participating in an on-call schedule. This position is open to either full-time or contract based employees.
Job Description
Managing and providing engineering guidance in regards to AppLogic support.
Managing 3Tera Applogic grid utility computing platform through their entire life cycle.
Troubleshooting grids in the LT environment.
Implementing new grids for clients.
Adding nodes to existing client grids.
Coordinates with client management to formulate highly complex technical solutions. Identifies and implements solutions based on client needs.
Informs client management of appropriate developments in technical support products.
Provides technical leadership to internal and external personnel on highly complex system installation processes. Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced personnel.
Provides technical leadership to appropriate personnel on highly complex system administration activities. Provides technical solutions and escalated support for non-routine, highly complex technical issues.
Evaluates products and upgrades for appropriateness of cost and compatibility. Oversees and implements system upgrade strategies.
Leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of highly complex solutions.
Coordinates activities with other technical personnel as appropriate.
Develops and analyzes highly complex system standards, thresholds, and recommendations to maximize system performance. Initiates reviews as appropriate.
Conducts capacity planning reviews with management and approves capacity plans formulated by less experienced personnel.
Develops strategies to manage the frequency of appropriate support package/patch application. Monitors database maintenance and provides appropriate recommendations, when required. Implements solutions and refines procedures as appropriate.
Coordinates with business development personnel on proposals and work estimates involving highly complex system administration projects and solutions.
Researches current systems technology and serves as subject matter expert on complex systems processes and procedures.
Conducts usability and costing studies.
Requirements
Ability to communicate and relate well with clients; both internal and external
Ability to stay organized and prioritize multiple tasks
5+ years? experience managing Enterprise LinuxUnix environments (Redhat/CentOS/Solaris 10)
3+ years? experience installing, configuring and tuning high-demand load-balanced web server clusters with Apache, PHP, and Virtual Hosting.
2+ years? experience with backup and recovery at an enterprise-level, with Perl or shell scripting, of Linux system performance tuning and with installing and maintaining critical monitoring systems measuring system performance.
General familiarity with DNS, SMTP, transfer (SSH, SCP, Rsync), VMWare, SAN
Experience analyzing systems from a security and performance perspective
Have a good understanding of application integration into highly complex HA systems
Familiar with Nagios monitoring tools
This is an exempt level position and will require on-call support in regards to supporting AppLogic. Calls could fluctuate from frequent to infrequent depending on stability and changes within the platform.
Education / Experience
Bachelor?s Degree in an IT-related field
Certification in related technologies: 3CCP, 3CCO, 3CCA
Strong Applogic background (2-3 years)
Experience implementing/designing new grids
Experience managing VPS/VDS/VPDC grids
