POSITION DESCRIPTION
Wetpaint.com is hiring an Assistant Editor for a new network of TV fan sites aimed at a female audience shows like Gossip Girl, The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, and Glee. Day-to-day responsibilities will include writing and editing in a voice specific to the target audience; contributing to photo/video production; researching and curating the best content from around the web; helping promote content on social media networks and to content partners; and helping launch new sites.
The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a collaborative team environment and has the ability to manage deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced work setting. A strong interest in TV and entertainment is essential. This position will start as an internship and move forward to Assistant Editor after a 3 month review period. Please submit two writing samples (300 - 500 words) recapping your favorite television show(s).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinate content and publishing schedule for a set of TV fan sites
a. Help develop, write, edit, and aggregate content (text, photos, and video)
b. Research topic areas and competitive offerings
c. Revise content according to performance
2. Promote content around the web
a. Collaborate with social media distribution team to promote unique content (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
b. Research and negotiate potential blogger/vlogger partnerships
3. Contribute to ongoing editorial strategy
a. Help evaluate and select new TV shows to cover
b. Help develop new types of content
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
1. Traditional writing and editing skills, along with an understanding for how to optimize content for the Web.
2. 1- 2 years of editorial web publishing experience preferred.
3. Basic familiarity with search engine optimization, social media, and photo editing programs.
4. B.A. in English, journalism, or related field.
