Venture capital financed and headquartered in Davis, California, the company focuses on discovering, developing, and marketing natural pest management products for the effective control of pests, weeds, plant diseases, and invasive species.
We are looking for a full-time ASSISTANT RESEARCH SCIENTIST ? Fermentation to join our energetic team in our Davis laboratory.
The qualified candidate will be responsible for supporting fermentation process development activities as well as general lab duties. In addition, the candidate will be self-motivated, possess flexibility, creativity, and the ability to work well in a team or independent setting.
Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities include:
Design and execute media development experiments in shake flask scale.
Design and execute fermentation process development experiments in 1, 10, 50, and 100 L fermentors.
Operate process equipment such as lab and pilot-scale fermentors, centrifuges, and filtration assemblies.
Monitor equipment operation and biological processes; perform process sampling and routine analysis
Participate in writing standard operation procedures (SOP?S) for various equipment
Set up, sterilization, cleaning and maintaining of components and process equipment.
Perform process support tasks including glassware, utilities and media preparation.
Other duties and responsibilities:
A solid understanding of fermentation principles and instrumentation.
Experience performing aseptic/sterile operations or working in a lab a plus.
Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Able to follow written instructions
Good record-keeping skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule.
Good time-management and organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task.
Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Qualifications
B.S. in Biochemical or Biological Engineering, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field or,
AS degree in Biological Sciences or related field, with 2 years? experience
Essential Physical & Mental Functions
Ability to spend long, often late hours observing and sampling fermenters
Mechanical aptitude with ability to lift 50 lbs.
Be able to work on repetitive tasks in a multi-functional lab
Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (2-4 hours)

The salary range is competitive.
