Associate Editor - Lifestyle Wetpaint

With direction from the Executive, Managing and Senior Editors, the Associate Editor will work on the day-to-day maintenance of sites in the lifestyles category. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative team environment and has the ability to effectively manage deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced work setting. The Associate Editor must have the ability, desire, and flexibility to learn and work across a broad range of lifestyle genres and target a specific demographic (millennial moms). Demonstrated experience writing and editing in a specific voice in the lifestyles genre is required.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in web publishing with a superior understanding of how to optimize content for readability and presentation for the web. Familiarity with search engine optimization (SEO) and social media is a bonus. He/she is also highly creative and has the ability to manage and drive high-level conceptualizing and planning, as well as details of site management and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan the content and publishing schedule of a lifestyle site
Research topic areas and competitive offerings
Help develop, write, and edit content
Analyze and react to performance of content types
Identify, hire, and manage editorial contractors
Coordinate and supervise the workflow of a disparate pool of freelance writers
Provide ongoing intern and contractor support, training, and management
Adhere to weekly editorial budget
Provide editorial support to Senior Editors
Assist Senior Editors with execution of editorial plans.
Conduct ongoing site maintenance and management
Actively participate in high-level editorial and network strategy planning and execution
Skills & Experience:
B.A. in English, Journalism, or related field.
3 to 5 years of editorial web publishing, must include experience in the lifestyle or entertainment genre.
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
Excellent communication skills
Experience working with or managing freelance writers/editors.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within tight deadlines
Understanding of how people read online and how to optimize content and presentation for the web
Understanding of online publishing sites
Familiarity with search engine optimization and photo editing programs a plus
