Mendel is a private agbiotech/agchem company developing solutions for the sustainable production of food, fiber and fuel. We have had longstanding collaborations with Monsanto, Bayer Crop Sciences and other major agricultural companies, and are currently in an exciting new growth phase enabled by a recent internal financing and anticipated near-term revenues from our earlier discoveries. Mendel is seeking to build out its legal team in preparation for further growth through an anticipated initial public offering in the next 24 months.
Position Description and Key Responsibilities:
This position is ideal for someone seeking a diverse set of challenges and the opportunity to develop new skills and legal/business experience in a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating and collaborative environment. This position reports to the Sr. VP of Corporate Development/General Counsel. Specific responsibilities include:
Structure, draft and negotiate wide range of licenses and other commercial contracts, alone and/or with members of executive team.
Serve as Assistant Secretary, attend Board meetings and advise executive team and Board on corporate governance, securities and other general corporate matters.
Manage relationships with outside counsel and responsibility for outside legal budget.
Overall responsibility for day-to-day legal issues of the company, including HR, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution and related matters.

Requirements:
Undergraduate and law degrees from nationally recognized universities
6-10 years relevant legal experience, including significant licensing/commercial transactions experience
In-house experience is preferred; top tier law firm training is required
Local residents preferred (no relocation)
