Overview:
MedPage Today, a property of Everyday Health, Inc. and the website for "putting medical news into practice," seeks an experienced, self-directed, organized Medical Editor to produce custom publishing projects for a professional audience. The Editor will have experience in medical writing and editing for an MD audience, and will help drive our mission as the No. 1 professional destination in digital media for trustworthy medical news and information.
The successful candidate will be responsible for helping conceptualize and produce innovative editorial content and products for sponsored mini-sites. You will be an integral part of the dynamic, nimble Custom Solutions editorial team, reporting directly to the Executive Editor, Custom Solutions. As part of this tight-knit, fast-paced department, you?ll assist the Senior Medical Editor/Writer in conceptualizing and producing relevant articles, photo galleries, case studies, medical animations, video, and other interactive features.
The Associate Editor will define the editorial vision for each custom project and collaborate with a cross-functional team of writers, editors, designers, project managers, product managers, and producers to execute all facets of the project, from concept to completion. He or she will coordinate with the client services department to fulfill project requirements, and will uphold MedPage Today's editorial standards for accuracy and objectivity.
The ideal candidate must have experience producing long-form, sourced, review articles across a broad range of medical topics. Writing/editing textbook chapters, syllabi, or monographs a plus. Experience in digital media is preferred. He or she must have strong editing skills, be highly organized and able to successfully manage multiple projects at once, be accustomed to fast turnaround from initiation to completion of projects, and have experience adhering to tight deadlines.
Responsibilities:
Assisting with assigning and editing new editorial content for sponsored mini-sites, including long-form articles, photo galleries, case studies, video, and other features.
Working with staff and freelance resources to produce video, tools, and interactive elements.
Managing multiple project schedules on deadline.
Manage freelance contributors.
Coordinating with the client services department to fulfill project requirements.
Managing requests for photos and images.
Helping manage updates to published mini-sites.
Drawing on knowledge of user experience and metrics to optimize content and increase page views.
Qualifications:
3-5 years medical writing/editing experience.
Experience covering a broad range of medical conditions and topics.
At least 2 years online experience.
College degree, preferably with medical or science journalism concentration or equivalent experience.
Understanding of SEO principles in creating compelling, highly trafficked content.
Basic understanding of HTML and online media.
Strong writing, editing, research, communication, and management skills.
Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines effectively and multitask.
