Responsibilities:
- Product Design â€" 50%; Project Management & Development Guidance â€" 40%; Special projects at the request of management â€" 10%
- Develop a vision for assigned product features that extend two or three iterations / versions ahead of the one currently in development
- Gather data through tests or competitive research to size opportunities for prioritization and shape products to be as engaging and useful as possible
- Meet with stakeholders and participate in strategy discussions for product roadmap. Instill processes to keep living roadmap highly visible and accessible to all stakeholders so direction can be adjusted as needed.
- Survey marketplace for similar approaches and evaluate how Demand Media might do things better differently or leverage successful techniques where they exist
- Draw up wireframes for pages and/or features to illustrate your concepts
- Lead creative / design reviews against brand goals and values
- Anticipate team member questions and seek to succinctly answer as many as possible with efficiently written instructions / requirements
- Decompose initiatives into steps with owners and due dates to ensure predictable outcomes
- Identify dependencies, assumptions and constraints that affect the outcome of each project
- Actively identify and manage risks to ensure predictable outcomes
- Plan iterations and lead inspection efforts throughout life cycle
- Ensure success criteria are well established across all stakeholders and means of measurement are in place prior to product launch
Requirements:
- 3-4 years of significant product / project management experience in an online media site, social networking site, or ecommerce site
- Self-starter; entrepreneurially minded; oriented towards over-delivering to expectations instead of delivering / meeting expectations
- Strong leadership skills; must establish credibility within teams as a knowledgeable, effective leader that knows where products are today and where they need to go
- Comfortable managing the technical aspects of a website/web product
- Experience with SEO and various monetization channels
- Proven track record as a product manager - complete life cycles of winning products in a fast-paced environment (prefer start-up experience)
- Working knowledge of the product development stages and process, and the technologies involved in web development
- Must be a committed team player, able to work both independently and interact with executive management, and other staff members
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work and strive in a fast pace environment
