Associate/Senior Associate, Private Company Market SecondMarket

SecondMarket is seeking a dynamic individual to support our efforts to interface with the most active and important institutional investors that utilize our Private Company Market suite of products and services. This individual, who will be based in our San Francisco office, will be charged with account management of top investors that execute transactions in private company stock. The ideal candidate for this role is a driven and experienced relationship manager that understands the art, science, and methodology around building strong and lasting relationships with institutional investors.
Internally, this role will report to the Senior Vice President of the Private Company Market, SecondMarket?s fastest growing market group, and will also work closely with SecondMarket?s deal teams, which focus on originating, developing and executing transactions in leading private companies. The prospective candidate must have 3-7 years of relevant experience in capital markets (investment banking, trading or venture capital) or selling investment solutions to institutions (research/data, trading solutions or financial software). The ideal candidate should have intimate knowledge of the capital formation process for venture backed companies and existing deep relationships with buy-side investors. The successful candidate will also be self-motivated, a natural leader, very detail oriented, able to turn verbal communication into structured and actionable data, and be maniacally focused on providing superior customer service. Good organizational and communication skills are critical to building a sustainable framework for this evolving business.
Externally, this individual will be responsible for managing relationships with buy-side investors who purchase private company stock on the secondary market including: venture capital firms, private equity firms, secondary direct firms, family offices, hedge funds and other accredited investors. The primary objective of the role will be to ensure that the best and most relevant investors in the world are happy with and are able to participate on SecondMarket. Additional duties will include identifying new potential groups of investors and convincing them that private company stock has a role in their portfolios or product suites, as well as gathering data from investors about interesting companies and trends that can be used in forming SecondMarket?s target company list.
Lastly, this person will be involved in supporting the implementation of new distribution strategies to enable SecondMarket to be accessed by investors that have not traditionally purchased private company stock.
Requirements
3-7 years of experience in investment banking, sales trading, or venture capital; or selling investment solutions such as research/data, trading solutions or other financial software products
Based in the San Francisco area (or be willing to relocate)
Proven track record of building and managing investor relationships
Strong communication, interpersonal and client relations skills
Interest in disrupting and changing the status quo as it relates to financial markets and capital formation
Experience working with venture-backed company founders, investors and employees
Interest in working in an entrepreneurial environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Salesforce, etc.
NASD Series 7, 63 and 24 licenses (or equivalent), or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment (study materials will be provided)
