The Systems Administration team at BigMachines is in search of a Associate System Administrator for the Linux environment. The Systems Administration team provides 24x7 support for the systems, databases and custom application that make up the BigMachines SaaS product hosted in our data centers and deployed on RedHat Linux and Oracle 11g databases. We are currently in the process of setting up a new data center in Chicago with shared storage (SAN) and Oracle RAC to support our growing customer base. This should present a very exciting and challenging opportunity for anyone committed to learning and growing with the organization.
Please Note: Aptitude testing is required for this position
Performing software upgrades and patch management (new application code / builds) in various production and non-production environments
Perform data backup / restoration within the database and virtual server platforms
Managing VMware virtual servers / clusters
Managing shared storage systems (SAN)
Capacity monitoring and reporting
Monitor and enforce configuration standards across all systems in the datacenter
Monitor and analyze system health and proactive problem resolution
Manage and prioritize multiple problems and issues
Lead problem resolution process to root cause, take initiative in identifying and fixing broken processes in production environment
Interface with and provide systems guidance and recommendations to other teams inside and outside of the IT organization, including customer support personnel and software developers
Work a flexible schedule, including a rotational on-call support schedule to cover nights and weekends
Adhere to all IT operational best practices and policies
Associates Degree (Computer or Engineering preferred) or equivalent experience
1+ years - Linux/Unix system administration experience
Installation, configuration and maintenance of Linux systems
Shell scripting (Perl, bash, python, etc.)
Writing technical documentation
Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, NFS, NIS, DNS, Linux account management, file permissions, security considerations
Previous experience a plus in:
SAN and NAS storage technology
Must be comfortable in both self-managed and team driven tasks
Statistical and analytical knowledge
Ability to independently perform data collection and analysis
Demonstrated initiative, team work, and commitment
