Automation Engineer Cellular Dynamics International
The position of Automation Engineer is to develop and oversee the automation associated with the large-scale production of iPS cells.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Integrate automation to improve large-scale, robust and consistent processes for the derivation, expansion, and cryopreservation of iPS cells.
Ensure smooth integration of robotics with manual derivation and expansion of iPSCs.
Work closely with OEM to build on written automation programs for process improvements, troubleshooting, and integration with potential third party vendors.
Provide alternative workflows to overcome process bottlenecks that are practical and cost-effective to implement.
Drive projects by coordinating efforts of the OEM, third party vendors, and production staff.
Automation equipments qualification, maintenance and real time trouble shooting
Follow production schedules to assure on-time delivery of finished product.
Establish and maintain consistent and clear documentation for programs and procedures including SOPs and technical reports.
Effectively communicate with production team to ensure fluid process workflow.
Effectively communicate within Production department.
Provide data or information to others in work group, and assist in implementation activities.
Understand and comply with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to CDI business.
Master of Science degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences or Molecular Biology with at least five years of industry experience.
Must have a proven track record in process development, product development cycles, and OEM relationships
Demonstrated understanding of process needs for large-scale manufacture of cell lines using the Hamilton STARlet a plus.
Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and interpersonal skills along with excellent oral and written communication.
Ability to work on a fast-paced, collaborative team and adapt to a flexible work schedule due to the nature of cell culture.
Experience with automation programs and integration with LIMS systems.
Familiar with intense cycles of development for both software and hardware.
Experience in iPS and/or hES cell culture a plus.
Familiar with Manufacturing systems, ISO and GMP regulations a plus.
Able to work at computer for extended periods of time.
Able to work in laboratory hood for extended periods of time.
Able to work with hazardous materials (i.e. chemicals, electrical equipment) without endangering oneself or others.
Able to wear standard laboratory PPE.
Able to occasionally lift 50 pounds.
