Backend SW Engineer, Sensors for Families, in beautiful Marin!Come join us in beautiful Marin! Tired of the concrete and craziness of the city? Enjoy running through the redwoods? We're doing things differently here five minutes across the golden gate -- and having a ton of fun.
We're looking to bring on a backend SW engineer as a founding engineer on the team. You'll be jumping into all kinds of cool stuff on day one and hit the ground running hard. We're LAMP-based and have all kinds of low-level message handlers for tons of little wireless sensors out in the wild that phone home to our servers. We'll need your help architecting and building out more of the infrastructure to support apps that connect up to our servers as well. In other words, you love APIs.
About Your Role:
Being a generalist is awesome as lots of things will change, but you gotta know PHP damn well, Python too, and be able to manage a cluster of Linux servers in the cloud. Hacking is cool, but it's also got to be hardcore -- playing around with Ruby doesn't count. We're all wearing multiple hats, so if you consider yourself a swiss-army knife of everything Web and Internet, from managing Linux processes to wiring up UX interfaces -- then there might be an awesome fit. Really, you're the go-to person that just makes stuff happen; we're a start-up -- you know what needs to get done and you just go do it.
About Us:
GreenGoose makes little wireless sensors -- they're stickers that measure things you do. They stick on things and magically detect activities like walking the dog, playing with your pets, toys, brushing your teeth, or even putting the toilet seat down. We're creating apps of our own and a sensor platform for developers and third parties.
Sensors wirelessly talk to Apps on mobile devices. Applications built around GreenGoose sensors solve little life difficulties in a playful way. They make everyday life easier and more enjoyable, like coordinate in the family who's feeding the pet dog. Or avoiding fights before bedtime trying to get your kids to brush their teeth. A little humor also goes a long way to change behaviors and get Johnny to put the toilet lid down.
More About You:
Required.
CS or a deeply technical degree and ability to show you know what's going on under the hood.
5-7 years experience is ideal. Less or college grad? Open to that too; we'd love to see projects and really cool stuff you've done on your own.
You've got Linux scripting, MySQL, PHP? and Python under your belt. Ruby is not your main language.
Full-time, but totally open to some contracting together, moonlighting, etc., first to test the waters.
Extra Credit.
You're comfortable in C and know where it makes sense.
You can jump in on code beyond servers and into the embedded space.
