MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Benefits Specialist will provide Benefits administration support to all Agency employees. Benefit Programs include, but are not limited to, Health Benefits, Federal Employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI), Thrift Savings Plan, Retirement Plans and Counseling, Long Term Care Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Service Deposits, and Leave Benefits. Duties include:
Respond to inquiries regarding benefits programs and assist with enrollments
Provide clear communication/announcements/updates with regard to employee benefits, new programs or policies and open season activities
Ensure all new employees complete appropriate health and life insurance forms
Provide counseling and assistance to employees in processing required paperwork
Manage the Leave Bank
Meet with employees to review retirement estimates and provide information about specific features of the employees retirement system
Assemble and forward to employees the appropriate retirement packages
Review employees completed package for accuracy and completeness and forward finalized packages to the appropriate Agency officials for final processing
Provide information, calculations, and necessary paperwork for employees who are eligible to make a service deposit (military service deposit, temporary Federal service deposit, re-deposit of refunded service)
Perform all special authority processing including Voluntary Early Retirement (VERA), Voluntary Separation Incentive Program (VSIP), Thrift Savings Plan catchup, and Retirement Conversion
Possess a minimum of 6 years of specialized retirement and benefits experience in the federal government or a Bachelors degree with 3 years of retirement and benefits experience in the federal government.
