BI Operations Engineer
Engineering | Kirkland, WA, United StatesWe're actively recruiting for a BI Operations Engineer take ownership of our BI data collection and management platforms including one of largest on-site Omniture implementation on the west coast, a Netezza data warehouse and a full BI Platform for data acquisition, metadata management and central configuration. The ideal candidate will have a cohesive vision for operations management, an enduring drive to get things done and an unflagging sense of humor in the face of adversity.
Responsibilities:
- Work with a team of smart and dedicated software and database developers in the operations of a world class Business Intelligence platform centered on a Netezza and Omniture implementation.
- Develop programs and processes for monitoring data quality and reporting identified issues
- Work closely with data providers to resolve data processing, completeness, and quality issues
- Develop new operational, analytical, and dashboard reports
- Work closely with data analysts, project managers and other team members to understand and interpret business requirements into business intelligence technical solutions
- Work with our team of 24x7 NOC engineers to integrate them into our troubleshooting process with the ultimate goal of making them the front line of support for our systems.
- Assist with the QA of new data sources obtained from various operational systems and external providers
- Develop a broad understanding of the core in-house BI Systems and assist with code deployments.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years working as an Operations Engineer or similar position in a large data warehouse environment.
- Proficiency with Netezza, Teradata, or similar.
- Familiarity with various programming/scripting languages.
- 1-3 years' experience with an enterprise scale job scheduling tool such as Active Batch, Autosys, Tivoli Workload Manager or similar technology. Experience with cron is a plus.
- Solid understanding of relational and dimensional database concepts.
- Very proficient in writing SQL Queries for data analysis and reporting
- Experience working with large data sets
- Understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP)
- Effective communicator: able to work with engineers, analysts, managers, QA testers, internal customers, and external partners
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies, processes and programming techniques
- Experience with full Software Development Lifecycle.
- Experience with unit testing and test driven development
- Experience working in an agile environment with 2 week Sprint Cycles for development and deployment.
- Understanding of data warehouse and Business Intelligence best practices, methodologies and terminology.
Undergraduate degree in CS/Science or equivalent experience required.
