Job DescriptionMaxPoint Interactive is seeking a highly motivated recent/future graduate to join us as a Big Data/Java Software Engineer in our Austin, Texas office to develop our big data-based back end software systems and datasets. The ideal candidate is energized by the thought of developing software that creates, manipulates, and analyzes massive datasets that are beyond the scope of RDBMs and that are mission critical to the on-going operations and success of the company.
This individual will work on a team of talented engineers responsible for the full lifecycle of production software applications ? including big data and database-based systems. Optimizing our applications for scale and speed in imaginative and innovative ways will be a primary function of this position.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain the software applications that drive our back end systems
Provide unit tests for these software applications
Participate in multi-disciplinary projects
Contribute to our team?s growing set of development platforms, tools, and processes
Preferred Skills
Interested in working on big data systems and technologies
Experience with highly scalable systems is desired
Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly
Excellent problem-solving abilities
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Knowledge of Hadoop, MapReduce, Cascading, web crawling & content indexing a plus
Experience with Postgres and/or Python a plus
An understanding of Agile development methodologies is a plus
Qualifications
Recent or future college graduate with BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering (or other technical discipline with significant computer coursework)
Must be eligible to work in the United States. Those needing sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future are not eligible for hire as we are not able to sponsor visas at this time
A minimum 3.25 GPA required
Experience developing applications in Java and utilizing Java platform technologies
Experience development under and managing Linux systems
