We are seeking a bioinformatics scientist with strong experience in scientific software development and genomics to join our bioinformatics group. Working in a team environment, this individual will develop novel algorithms and software for the analysis of a wide spectrum of genomes, including human, other mammalians and plant genomes.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
The incumbent will develop new applications, systems, and analysis tools for use in a high-throughput computing environment. The focus will be on crating novel algorithms for analysis of large datasets and optimizing computationally-intensive workflows. S/he will also perform in-depth data analysis of OpGen?s Whole Genome Map and genomics data. As a member of the bioinformatics team, the bioinformatics scientist will work closely with other engineers and analysts, as well as scientific staff throughout the organization.
Advanced degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or other related scientific/engineering fields (or equivalent professional experiences); a strong foundation in Genomics is required.
At least eight (8) to twelve (12) years of working experience in bioinformatics software development and statistical data analysis; experience with NGS is desired.
Expert level programming ability in C/C++ and PERL in a UNIX/LINUX environment is required; shell scripting is a plus.
Extensive experience with high performance distributed computing and/or cloud computing.
Experience with statistical analysis/development tools such as R and Matlab.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex, technical information to scientists.
Must have excellent organizations skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform multiple tasks independently.
