Job Description:

The function of the Book Designer is to apply formatting specifications to an authors manuscript based on technical requirements, aesthetic design conditions, and the authors intentions and express instructions.

This position is teamed with a Design Consultant as well as other Production personnel. Contact is required with the client during the initial design call. On a case by case basis additional contact with client may occur.

The Book Designer will make daily design related decisions with regards to the interior layout of the book. These decisions are not generally complex in nature, but do have a high impact on client materials. The incumbent must possess the ability to make sound and consistent judgments and identify potential layout issues early in the design process.

Duties

Follow established design and production processes as outlined by Production Manager and Design Manager.

Complete initial designs based on daily business needs and individual skill set.

Complete initial designs based on knowledge of industry standards, design best practices, and current design styles and trends.

Develop materials for, and participate in, regular design reviews with Design Manager.

Demonstrate ability to consistently produce a high volume of quality work under pressure and tight deadlines.
Demonstrate ability to multi-task.


Job Requirements:


Education/Experience: High school diploma required. College or University Degree in Liberal Arts preferred, or 2 years relevant experience.

Specific Skills: Superior knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook e-mail, Internet use, and typing skills at 50 WPM

Physical Skill: Sufficient manual and digital dexterity to work with a computer, keyboard, mouse, monitor, and phone pad.

Working Conditions: 8:00 am 5:00 pm core schedule with frequent flexibility for start and ending times. Additional hours and/or overtime depending on the position may be required due to business needs. Other duties may be required as assigned.
