What Problems Would I Solve?
The Business Development Director will be a key member of the Solutions Team who is responsible for expanding InContext?s middle market customer base by actively marketing our solutions to senior executives within mid-sized consumer packaged goods, retail, and dining companies. This role is an inside new business sales position focused on providing prospective customers an introduction to our software and research solutions by proactively targeting prospects and presenting our capabilities. With the recent introduction of our ShopperMX SAAS platform, this individual will be focused on marketing this exciting offering with immediate opportunity.
Our new ShopperMX software simulates product, shelf, store, merchandising and marketing concepts in a 3D retail environment. It allows our clients to develop and share these concepts with partners, test them with shoppers and get them in market faster for seamless management of the concept development process. ShopperMX was released in mid-June and has taken off quickly.
Specifically this individual will be responsible for the following:
- Developing a middle market business development / lead generation strategy in conjunction with InContext leadership
- Effectively presenting InContext?s capabilities to prospective clients
- Developing and closing new business opportunities through a high level of phone/web-ex activity
- Meeting and/or exceeding set new business revenue target
- Maintaining a strong understanding of the value of InContext?s products and services

This individual will report to Business Development leadership and work across multiple levels and functions within the team. The Business Development Director will also partner with our technology and shopper insights teams to educate prospective clients and develop proposals that align with business objectives. The Director will need to maintain strong relationships with these cross functional teams to ensure proposals meet the client?s strategic goals. Our clients often come from one of several areas of their companies, including shopper marketing, shopper insight, consumer insight, and trade marketing. As a new role, this position offers a substantial growth opportunity suitable for a candidate who is looking to move up within an organization.
When will I start? What will I make?
Ideal candidates will be local (based in Chicago) and have availability to start full time in the next 3-6 weeks. The interview process should take no more than 2-4 weeks from initial phone interview to offer letter. We are happy to discuss compensation including base salary, commission targets and equity in the first interview.

Bachelor's degree from a recognized academic institution
5 to 7 years of progressive inside sales-focused work experience; familiarity with Software Sales.
Experience selling solutions to clients in the following sectors: consumer packaged goods (CPG), fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), retail, and dining
Strong prospecting, needs analysis, negotiating and closing skills
A proven track record of developing and closing new business opportunities through a high level of phone/web-ex activity
Demonstrated attention to detail, excellent interpersonal, communication and persuasion skills
Strong executive phone presence
An innate sense of curiosity and entrepreneurship, along with a desire to independently solve business challenges with customized solutions
A deep understanding of common business challenges encountered by consumer goods manufacturers and retailers
Is intelligent and passionate about what they do
