Business Development Intern, CO2-based Polymers
Novomer is a new materials company pioneering a family of competitively priced high-performance green plastics, polymers and other chemicals. Our groundbreaking technology allows carbon dioxide to be cost effectively transformed into polymers for a wide variety of end applications including coatings, foams, adhesives, elastomers, and thermoplastic packaging.
We are looking for high energy, highly motivated undergraduate and/or MBA Intern(s) to work in Novomer's Corporate Office in Waltham, MA to support the polymers business development team, performing a wide range of market research and analysis activities.
Marketing Research and Analysis
- Research new application segment opportunities for Novomer, including analyzing overall market trends, size and profit potential, value chain, competitive dynamics, and potential for Novomer technology to meet customers' needs.
- Define Novomer's value proposition in new markets and design technical project(s) required to validate this value proposition, including an assessment of Novomer resources required, external resources required, timing, and cost.
- Map market participants across the value chain and prioritize potential joint development partners.
- Support existing activities with specific analyses of the chemical and cleantech sectors as needed.
- Assist with project management to support grants that Novomer has been awarded to date.

Skills and Experience
The ideal undergraduate candidate is a double major in business/science with hands-on experience in either a chemistry lab or a corporate environment. The ideal MBA candidate has a technical undergraduate degree and consulting or industry work experience in the chemicals/materials sector with a focus on commercializing new technologies.
Technical undergraduate degree (e.g., chemistry, engineering) required. Some exposure to chemicals and/or polymers preferred. Familiarity with polyurethane chemistries is a plus. Required skills include:
- Structured analytical skills with the ability to take a logical approach to solving complex problems
- Experience with unstructured / ambiguous research projects
- Strong data analysis capabilities in a management, strategic planning, marketing, or sales context
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Some technical knowledge of Chemistry, Polymers, Material Sciences, and/or Engineering
