The Business Development Manager has responsibilities that span business development, M&A, contract management. He/she is responsible for coordinating, administering and maintaining a portfolio of in-licensed opportunities, keeping them on track and providing the support to senior management for execution of legal documents and negotiated terms.
The Business Development Manager is the primary support to MBI?s senior management and business development team for strategic MBI research collaborations and business partnerships and is responsible for initiating, shepherding, and assisting in negotiating access to in-licensed technology, out-licensing the company?s product candidates and technology, and early stage screening collaborations. The business development team includes at various times the CEO, Sr. VP Commercial Operations, CSO, and VP of Product Management and Business Development. The Business Development Manager will assist the business development team from initiation through the structuring, negotiation and documentation process to final conclusion. He/she provides active input to business development strategy with other senior management. Specific areas of responsibility include:
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
NDAs ? working with R&D and others at MBI to execute MBI-favorable NDAs
MTAs ? working with R&D, sales and marketing to execute MBI-favorable MTAs for in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities
Project Management ? work with internal MBI teams on assessing and evaluating potential in-licensing opportunities to ensure timely evaluation and response
Other Licensing or Collaboration Agreements ?draft and assist with negotiating agreements with third parties on potential new technology acquisitions
Contract Management ? Track all key agreements and ensure compliance with key terms of contracts
Provide weekly report and dashboard of deal flow to Leadership Team
Other Responsibilities include:
Primary support to the business development initiatives that are consistent with the company?s overall strategy including technology in-licensing and MBI?s technology out-licensing.
Work with senior management on contract negotiations and work with legal counsel as required.
Manage relationship with legal counsel for maximum efficiency and lowest fees through coordination of input from other team members.
Work with patent attorney if there are IP issues in deal structuring
Utilize functional and technical people resources within MBI as appropriate (e.g. R&D, finance, operations, marketing)
Work with other team members on financial implications of the deal such that the revenues and costs are considered in financial models
From time to time there may be projects that require additional support for furthering MBI?s business objectives.
As appropriate the Business Development Manager represents the interests of MBI in the local/regional/business community.
Skills and Specifications:
Requires an individual with a science background to work with senior management to meet the business goals for in and out-licensing activities. This executive will need to actively function in a cooperative manner with strong teamwork and interpersonal skills and also exhibiting strong leadership, organization and communication skills as well as having excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills.
The individual should appreciate our entrepreneurial, fast-paced, agile, and dynamic work setting. He/she should be enthusiastic and energetic, goal-driven, and highly motivated to complete tasks in a timely, efficient manner. The candidate should also thrive in a strong team environment, be a self-starter and comfortable speaking up in company meetings. The salary range is competitive.
