CAD Operator / Mechanical Designer TerraTherm

This position is responsible for computer aided design and drafting using AutoCAD, hand sketches and other means necessary to communicate design details and requirements in support of TerraTherm projects. The position will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining CAD standards and an appropriate document control system. The CAD operator will also be responsible for supporting project managers with data organization and presentation in graphical and tablular format. In addition, there may also be opportunities to apply hands-on skills to ?build what you draw? on an as needed basis in our work shop.
CAD Operation / Design
Prepare design drawings, details, and sketches from sketches, concepts or mark-ups provided by TerraTherm engineering or project management staff. Make revisions from drawing mark-ups. Drawings may be used for proposal, client or agency submittal, quotation solicitation, or fabrication, and as such, the level of detail and complexity of drawings will vary depending on its intended purpose. Typical design packages include preparation of well field layout, electrical circuit and single line drawings, mechanical equipment and piping layout, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and when required fabrication details.
Draw and plot drawings to scale, as required.
Develop equipment/material schedules and material takeoffs, from drawings or sketches. Prepare requests for bids for subcontractors and material vendors, as directed.
Continue to develop and document TerraTherm standard design details, standard equipment layouts and common process diagrams.
Maintain knowledge of current CAD software and presentation software versions though vendor literature, support groups and training, as required. Additional graphical software may include Visio or PowerPoint.
CAD Standard Maintenance
Develop and document recommended CAD drawing standards in consultation with TerraTherm engineering staff (drawing standards, standard layers, text/fonts, pen tables, plot files, etc.). Communicate CAD standards to staff and maintain drawings in accordance with accepted standards.
Develop an appropriate document control system for CAD drawings, in consultation with TerraTherm engineering staff. Develop and maintain standard drawing numbering system for project related drawings, TerraTherm standard parts, components, blocks and standard equipment details.
Revision Control ? Maintain control and document revisions to existing drawings. Maintain and file current revisions and previous versions for project documentation. Prepare design work plans, from conceptual design through detailed design packages. Typical design efforts include preparation of well field layout, electrical circuit calculations, mechanical equipment and piping layout, heat and material balances, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams.
Project Data Management and Graphics Support
Support project managers with data organization and presentation in graphical and tabular format. Tabulate data in MS Excel Spreadsheets or MS Access Database, and data presentation in either graphical (maps/drawings/charts) or tabular format.
When required, integrate tabular data into drawings for reporting or presentation to clients (e.g., integrating historical temperature or concentration data onto a site layout map).
Support business development and marketing program with graphics support. This may include preparation of conceptual designs (site layout drawing and cross sections) prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint utilizing customer provided CAD or PDF drawing formats.
Assist engineering and project management staff with day to day project functions, as needed, including researching product specifications, contacting vendors, and other support functions as needed.
Assist with component assembly and hands-on shop work, as needed in TerraTherm shop.
Always look for new and better ways to streamline the cost and performance of ISTD, capture information, and make overall improvements as learning takes place.
As directed, develop new methods/equipment in accordance with approved budget and scope.
Continue to gain knowledge on the remediation of hazardous materials by reading relevant trade journals and related information.
At least 2 to 4 years direct AutoCAD experience
Proficiency in AutoCad 2014, Plant Design Suite P&ID software a must
Small / start-up company experience, preferred but not required
Preferred experience in an remediation technology engineering environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with AutoCAD (current version), Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
AutoCAD training, experience or certificate
Self-starter and outgoing personality traits
Ability to take direction and act independently
Strong communications and organization skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized while doing so
Level of Supervision:
Report to Engineering Manager through CAD supervisor/Senior Engineer
Supervisor will work with project management staff to set work priorities
Work independently based on instructions, directions, or requests received from supervisor and/or project staff.
