Primary Characteristics
Assist the Vice President of Capital Markets Accounting and Operations in the recording and reporting of financial results for the settlement of activities supported by the department. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of internal controls as they relate to activities supported by the department. Support the reporting for external audits as needed. Provide departmental support and supervision in the Manager?s absence for both department and external parties.
Essential Functions
? Provide Oracle General Ledger recording of transactions and reporting of month end close for Mark to Market transactions of Secondary Marketing. Function to include ?determine loans held for sale that receive Fair Value accounting treatment; Compile data and prepare journal entries to record the Fair Value adjustments for loans held for sale; provide analytical schedules to support and validate financial results.
? Compile Loans Held for Sale loan level detail at month end using Oracle General Ledger, Data Base of Record (DBOR), Quantitative Risk Management (QRM), and Oracle Discoverer and Access data base systems. Categorize loans for Fair Value Accounting, LOCOM and FAS 91 deferral. Provide data to Corporate Accounting for reporting purposes on a quarterly basis.
? Prepare and distribute Loans Held for Sale Roll Forward ? Prepare and analyze Loans Held for Sale roll forward schedules on a monthly basis. Gather supporting documentation to support the activity for various categories within the report.
? Prepare FAS91 deferral schedules and transactions. Prepare loan level reports for loans originated with the intent to hold to maturity. Using various systems, compile/prepare journal entries to defer revenue and expenses to the deferred asset account. Distribute reports as requested to Corporate Accounting for reporting. Assist in the review of the Standard Cost per Loan as requested by Corporate Accounting when the standard is revised/updated.
? Provide information and support for internal and external audit requests on quarterly and annual basis.
? Prepare and distribute footnote disclosures for Loans Held for Sale and Fair Value Measurement on a quarterly and annual basis.
? Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts related to Secondary Marketing Fair Value Accounting and various accounts as assigned. Provide analysis and resolution for reconciling items as needed.
? Review, reconcile and distribute sales schedules of Residential Mortgages monthly/quarterly/annually using Uniform Financial Transaction system (UFT), access database queries, Excel and Oracle General Ledger.
? Prepare and record the servicing asset valuations for loans sold servicing retained including MBS securitizations, and Agency Cash sales on a monthly basis.
? Prepare and record sales of GNMA buyout (modified) loans utilizing excel, Oracle General Ledger, DBOR and access data base. Manual process of loans not stored in UFT.
? Develop and implement cross-training initiatives to help ensure adequate coverage for critical functions within the department
? Assist in the review and posting of journal entries as requested/assigned by department manager.
? Develop, maintain and update documentation of procedures for current job responsibilities
? Review the reconciliation of the repurchase of originated loans from investors. Review the preparation and maintenance of the loan level logs and reconciliation of loans until asset is moved to final destination on the balance sheet (resold to outside investor, Real Estate Owned property (REO), Held for Investment (HFI), or Foreclosure receivable). Utilize UFT, MSP (Mortgage servicing system), Oracle GL, Oracle Discoverer for research and reconciliation
? Organize and prepare quarterly/annual variance analysis of Secondary Marketing activity for inclusion in management reports and financial statements.
? Substitute various positions within the department during absence of staff for the following functions:
o Generate daily reports of realized gains and losses of loans held for sale and related hedges
o Validate and reconcile changes to the daily MTM of the secondary marketing position
o Provide general ledger reporting for comparison to Secondary Marketing results
o Prepare and reconcile daily sales schedules and journal entries
? Coordinate and compile quarterly internal control reporting using current processes and systems in place (QAR, BWise)
? Provide Ad Hoc analysis and requests as needed
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements)
? Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
? The ability to judgmentally identify and prioritize the research of the reconciling items by materiality and exposure.
? Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and presentation skills are required. This position will work closely with various departments in the organization, including but not limited to Production Operations, Corporate Accounting, Investor Accounting, Secondary Marketing and IT to resolve DBOR to G/L reconciliation issues.
? The ability to manage staff, lead future department initiatives and work well in a team environment.
? A good understanding of mortgage banking accounting and familiarity with the settlement process for securities and whole loans.
? The ability to demonstrate good problem solving skills by utilizing available tools and resources.
? Familiarity with loan delivery systems and trading and hedging systems is a plus.
? Strong technical PC skills including Advanced Access and Excel are required.
? Familiarity with Oracle Financials or other general ledger systems
? The ability to make concise business decisions based on available data with little or no assistance from manager.
? The ability to organize and establish scope of review with specific tasks and timeline for staff.
? The ability to plan and organize multiple tasks at one time.
? The ability to objectively review and document a process flow and identify controls and/or process weaknesses. Timely implementation of adequate internal controls and procedures to effectively mitigate identified risks.
? The ability to evaluate an existing complex process and recommend/implement changes to improve process effectiveness and efficiency.
? The ability to develop new reporting framework (i.e. structure, formats and procedures).
? The ability to interact and cultivate business relationships with various departments to enact positive process changes.
? The ability to manage staff and/or processes to enhance current career goals and potential growth with the company.
Training and Experience
MBA or CPA and 5+ years Banking experience with emphasis in Mortgage Banking or BA in Finance or Accounting and 5-10 years banking experience with emphasis in secondary marketing and/or production accounting.
