Cell Quality Control Engineer Tesla Motors

We are currently seeking a multi-faceted Battery Cell Engineer to manage quality control of the cells for our next generation electric vehicle battery pack. Ideally, we would like to find someone with the following expertise

-M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry , Materials Science or equivalent

->1 year in industry with experience in lithium ion battery manufacturing or battery cell analysis

-Experience with analytical equipment such as SEM, EDX, ICP, GC-MS.

-Speaking of Japanese, Korean or Chinese would be beneficial

-Travel required

Responsibilities

75% Cell Quality Control Engineer

a. Regular incoming lot inspections

1. Inspect quality of cell assembly to address common process issues such as weld splatter and weak shorts. Work with cell vendors to resolve these issues.

2. Develop a test plan for incoming cell analysis to ensure product is meeting cell performance specification. Develop a sampling plan for long term cycle, storage and safety tests to ensure consistent product. Execute and manage this plan.

b. Own the cell subsection of the FMEA

c. Own Cell QC issues in Tesla battery pack manufacturing

1. Resolve any cell related reject issues on the manufacturing line.

2. Work on incoming inspection issues and track yields to give feedback to cell vendors

d. Assist with the PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) for the cells

1. Evaluate cell assembly processes at vendor and their implications to pack reliability and safety

2. Understand yield issues at the manufacturer

3. Confirm reliability and consistency of product from vendors of the cell manufacturer.

25% Cell Engineer

{C}b. Dissect cells for benchmarking purposes
