Certifications Project Engineer AirCell
The Certifications Project Engineer oversees various Certifications projects of significant magnitude in terms of complexity, cost, time-constraints, internal and external staffing, and equipment, including software, hardware and specific certification efforts.
You will provide direction to individuals in the Certs Team or a project team including assignment of individual responsibilities, tasks and technical functions, as required. In addition you will identify needs and allocate the appropriate resources (internal and external) to meet the timely completion of specific Certification project tasks including STC?s and support of external TC?s with customers. This role continually monitors individual and broad performance and progress to ensure compliance to specific certification rules, deadlines and goals. Uses a broad knowledge of technical resources effectively to coordinate team members and resources including direct FAA ACO or FAA ODA officials. Most project assignments usually last more than 3 months and include considerable interface with project personnel, customers and the FAA or their delegates (i.e. ODA?s, DER?s, DAR?s, etc.).

Project management for assigned areas and may include personnel management. Subject Matter Expert.
Develops trust and is responsible for overall Leadership/Management of components of the Certification department processes and personnel, as a business support function. Supports Director to develop Vision.
Provides Leadership and is a single point focus for Certification assigned projects or products. Reports to Director, Certification entities and the business upper management, as required.
Develops and manages teams and supports projects from original concept through final implementation and certification approvals.
Interfaces with all areas affected by the projects including, but not limited to, outside suppliers, end users, management, the FAA and end customers. May include FCC and other Telecommunications or Safety approvals authorities such as PTCRB and UL.
Leads the definition of Project Scope for subject area based on general plans provided. Generates resource plans, provides status reports and subject matter expertise. Measures progress using metrics.
Gathers information and conducts project meetings. Responsible for tracking and driving actions to closure.
Applies pressure to team members, as needed, to ensure timely problem solving and schedule adherence.
Contribution on a personal or individual technical level as well as the leadership role is required. Writes plans, reports and both Technical and Administrative documentation to support the process and projects.
Ensures team adherence to contracts, System or Product specifications, FAA CFR?s and Quality standards.
Follows and improves processes and ensures team discipline and adherence. Brings new ideas for improvement. Supports AS 9100 Processes and Certifications.
Effectively and regularly communicates with direct management, the assigned and extended team (both internal or external), the FAA (and/or their delegates), as appropriate.
Uses PC tools to manage details, such as Outlook, MS Project, Visio, Word and Excel.
Administration; personnel performance reviews, if assigned, business agreements such as statements of work, and formal planning using tools such as Microsoft Project and Visio. Develops SME (Subject Matter Expertise) in Certifications area, as a Center of Excellence, by coaching, teaching and training own personnel and Project (company) personnel to increase Certifications knowledge. Stays up to date on latest rules and trends.
Education and Experience
Bachelor?s Degree in Technical field preferred, or equivalent Avionics / Certification experience.
8-10 years Avionics involving certifications required, Aircraft A&P, FAA DER or DAR, a significant advantage.
Minimum 5 years experience in supervision or management of Projects.
Engineering and/or product development as an engineer, or significant field experience is required.
Interface with the FAA and/or ODA for STC/TC work required.
Additional Experience and Preferred Skills
Certification experience focused on Aircraft, Software or Hardware, or a combination a plus.
Experience working with Telecommunications products a plus.
Experience on corporate (Business) aircraft preferred.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and/or electrical and mechanical drawings and sketches.
Preferred experience in generating drawings in AutoCAD and/or 3-D Mechanical Drawing such as SolidWorks.
Cost account management and/or Budget management a plus.
Strong leadership skills ? leads by example, develop and extend Trust.
Demonstrated high level of competency in team building and dealing with ambiguous situations.
Proven track record of problem solving, broad thinking, leadership and a high level of energy and urgency.
Effectively communicates through the Company, as required, both internally and external of the team. Strong interpersonal and written skills.
