The Department
Quality Assurance - SpaceX has a strong belief that launch vehicles and spacecraft can be both cost effective and highly reliable. Our Quality team is key to our pursuit of that goal and more specifically also our pursuit of manned spaceflight. The department works in a cross-functional fashion with all other technical teams on a variety of exciting projects, and has great exposure to leadership and the organization as a whole.
Responsibilities
- Perform internal and external inspections to determine if a weldment meets the acceptance criteria of a specific code, standard or document.
- Have the ability to properly interpret Codes and Specifications in accordance with the drawing requirements.
- Use a computer to compile and submit data of acceptance or rejection of weld quality, as well as for inter-office communications.
- Pay attention to detail and be capable of recommending and approving repairs as well as performing visual inspection of completed work.
- Must be familiar with the following welding processes: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Electron Beam Welding, Laser Beam Welding, Friction Stir Welding a plus
- Familiar with various aerospace materials, such as, Aluminum (6061 and 2219), various grades of Stainless Steel, Inconel, Copper, etc.
- Ability to complete Welding Procedures and Welder Qualification documentation.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required.
- 3 years' experience in weld inspection as a CWI.
- Current American Welding Society certification required.
- Extensive knowledge of industry standards including AWS and ASME; working knowledge of NDE methodologies.
