This is a temporary position which may lead to a regular full-time job. The company is currently located in Palo Alto, CA but will be moving to Milpitas, CA in April 2013.
Shift Times:
M-F Shift 1: 6am-2:30pm
M-F Shift 2: 2pm-10:30pm
M-F Shift 3: 10pm-6:30am
Nanosys is looking for several Chemical Manufacturing Technicians who will be responsible for supporting the group?s production of quantum dots including performing distillations and synthetic chemistry following standard operating procedures. Most of the chemistry is done in glove boxes or air-free environments.
Job Summary
Performs routine manufacturing operations for the production of commercial products. Complies with all Safety, Health and Environmental policies. Complies with all company Quality policies. Operates production equipment according to SOPs. Performs manufacturing activities of full scope including but not limited to work functions in Quantum Dot Synthesis, Blending and Packaging. Participates and contributes to continual improvement efforts. May assist with the execution of validation and qualification protocols. May assist with in-process testing to assure batches meet specifications.
Essential Functions
Adhering to and actively support corporate Employee, Health & Safety polices.
Identifying, reporting and participating in recommended improvement or corrective action on safety and environmental problems.
Participating in Employee Health & Safety audits, site meetings, and group discussions.
Performing daily production of commercial or development products according to production plan.
Assessing workload and adjust time to complete work within timelines needed to meet production plan and customer demands.
Working with all site staff as needed to support various projects.
Demonstrating positive teamwork, assisting fellow team members in completing work when necessary to meet deadlines.
Assisting in performing and properly documenting assigned calibrations and preventive maintenance according to schedule.
Maintaining, labeling and properly first-in-first out Raw Material, In Process or Finished Goods inventories according to established procedures.
Communication of process deviation.
Improving knowledge and skills through training.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
To be considered for this position, you must possess a High School diploma or equivalent education. At least 3 years in a laboratory environment is required. Chemistry beyond high school level is a plus. Must have good organizational and time management skills as well as the ability and desire to learn new skills.

Must show a commitment to maintaining a safe workplace.
Ability to take direction from multiple sources, and manage time to meet daily testing needs as well as satisfy longer term commitments to project support.
Ability to multi-task is essential for success in this position.
Should be very detail oriented.
Good documentation skills, including written and oral communication is necessary. Must demonstrate good teamwork.
Must show a commitment to best laboratory and manufacturing practices.
Must maintain satisfactory attendance at work facility, to include timeliness.
To support plant operation must be available and willing to work overtime on holidays, weekends and afterhours.

Work is mainly performed in a laboratory environment. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
