As a key executive, the CFO is responsible for the financial and operational management of Relay?s business. This person will provide leadership in all the financial aspects of the business, including development of the annual and long-term budgets/forecasts and providing analysis and commentary on the financial impact of operational and strategic initiatives of the company. The CFO will also provide leadership for human resources, including organizational development and design, legal and risk management matters and asset planning.
Responsibilities
Strategy:
Maintain a constant, in-depth working relationship with the Board, CEO, President and other senior executives
Participate, support and assume a leadership role in fundraising efforts
Develop tools and systems in order to provide critical financial and operational information to the Executive team
Oversight and broad management/planning responsibilities associated with all areas of finance, accounting and tax functions
Executive Management:
Serve as a member of the executive leadership team
Participate in key decision making as a member of the executive team
As part of the leadership team; identify, structure, negotiate and implement transactions including M&A and partnerships critical to securing and enhancing long-term growth
Financial Planning and Analysis:
Prepare and maintain regular financial planning reports
Lead and manage annual and interim budgeting and forecasting cycles
Develop financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements, identifying monetary resources; developing action plans, manage budgets and develop tax and cash flow strategies; participate in continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of departmental managers on financial issues impacting their budgets
Provide financial analysis as needed, in particular for strategic initiatives, capital investments, growth opportunities, pricing decisions and contract negotiations; provide financial input on decision-making issues affecting the company and its divisions
Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed
Operational:
Resolve operational issues including HR, contract and legal negotiations, office and facilities management, budgeting, compensation and bonus plans, and investor communication
Evaluate weekly, monthly and annual data and develop it into actionable metrics and recommendations; work with team leaders to increase efficiency and drive continuous improvement within different functional areas of the company
Manage the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the finance department?s goals and objectives
Perform other projects and duties at the request of Relay?s leadership and/or Board of Directors
Qualifications
2+ years of experience as CFO or equivalent; 5+ years of progressively responsible financial roles
CPA and Bachelor?s degree required
MBA degree preferred but not required
Preference will be given to candidates with a retail background and / or startup experience
High level of written and oral communication skills
Entrepreneurial spirit/mindset, flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity, while providing stability to the financial planning process
Must be willing to work in Charlottesville, Virginia
Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on timely analyses
