The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will be an active member of the Cogent Executive Leadership Team. As a member of this team, the CMO will have the opportunity to not only participate in building Cogent Healthcare as the unquestioned leader in delivering inpatient care, but also take a leading role in developing the future of the Hospital Medicine sector.

Improve and implement a system of care that delivers consistent excellence across our network
Lead and train over 800 physicians in their delivery of clinical, operational and financial outcomes
Partner with the most dynamic hospitals and systems in the country by implementing and building successful programs built on shared risk
Establish Cogent as the ?Employer of Choice? in the recruitment of physicians
Become a recognized industry leader through national committees, editorial and presentations
Committed to quality, safety, service and improvement of patient clinical outcomes, and lead in promoting physician performance in these areas
Involvement in all initiatives and concerns regarding patient safety, quality, and risk management and patient service, especially those related to physician issues.
Responsible for assuring a robust peer review and credentialing process, ensuring quality, safety, service and behavioral issues on the part of the physicians are addressed fairly and in a timely fashion.
Active in development, implementation and deployment of the Cogent system of care including monitoring of the appropriateness of all program clinical activities, and utilization of resources.
Direct management accountability of Regional Medical Directors: including training, mentoring, and evaluation of their job performance.
Collaboration with the organization?s Compliance Officer regarding physician issues that involve regulatory compliance.
Develop standards of performance, evaluate performance, and initiate or make recommendations for personnel actions.
Assures compliance with Federal and State law and accrediting and licensing agencies.
Integrates clinical services and coordinates with other Cogent department/services in a manner that fosters a collaborative environment for teamwork within Cogent Healthcare.
Models and provides leadership for delivery of excellent patient service and ensures the successful implementation of effective strategies and approaches.
Leads efforts that will establish Cogent?s providers as top performers as defined by externally reported measures of performance, e.g. CMS? Value Based Purchasing Program.
Serves as a change agent for those activities that will create clinical improvement and optimization of related activities or goals.
Collaborates with other executive leaders to foster greater physician alignment with Cogent and Cogents? customer hospitals.
Serves as a resource for the vetting, development and implementation of related activities within Cogent.
Develops and implements physician communication strategies that inform and promote information exchange and socialization.
Provides service, guidance, and promotion of quality standards through audits, peer review, quality management, and education initiatives.
Promotes information sharing, benchmarking, and best practice identification across the system.
Serves as the clinical liaison for information technology issues and utilization of Cogent?s Advanced Analytics tool.
Deals with clinical systems problems, identifying cause and developing action plans for effective resolution of issues.
Responsible for the curriculum and training of both physician and non-clinical participants in Cogent Academy as related to medical management.
Models and drives physician documentation standards that result in appropriate coding and compliance requirements.
An M.D. is required with Hospitalist or critical care leadership experience an MBA, MHA or other advanced management degree, is desired.
A demonstrated track record of superior performance in physician leadership roles. The successful candidate will be recognized for knowledge in clinical process improvement.
Business skills in planning, use of information systems, financial management, budgeting, reimbursement and managed care, healthcare economics, medical practice management, human resources management and team building, program development, community education, and marketing/referral-base development.
Clinical leadership skills in quality, clinical effectiveness and outcomes, clinical staff development, and clinical protocol development.
Demonstrated knowledge of managed care and health policy that encourages visionary thinking.
Superior clinical competence and track record as a practicing physician.
Recognition as a thought leader in the industry, participant and speaker at conferences or industry boards.
Demonstrated management, leadership and executive capabilities. Enjoys working as a member of a cohesive team, and is good at doing so.
Significant understanding of and experience with performance improvement and quality management programs.
Ability to teach educate and to articulate positions effectively. Excels in effective training, coaching and counseling of employees, as well as definitive mentoring skills.
Experience in developing physician training programs including leadership development.
Maintains strict confidentiality with regard to protected health information and understands and adheres to Cogent Healthcare's HIPAA Privacy and Security Policies and Procedures
