Evogen, Inc., a rapidly growing, dynamic leader in Molecular Diagnostic platforms, is seeking a
proven leader with extensive experience in the private sector and academia to support and
expand the scientific vision of Evogen. The CSO will understand why and how molecular
diagnostics is changing the world, and help guide the company?s efforts accordingly. He or she
will be a forward-looking and respected thought leader with extensive relationships in the
academic and commercial molecular diagnostic testing communities. The right candidate will
have proven leadership in recognizing market trends in testing, prioritizing product development,
and have a proven track record in taking a product from R&D to an LDT (Lab Developed Test)
and then on to commercialization (via ASR or 510K).
Strategic Direction : The CSO will work with the other members of Evogen?s leadership team to
ensure the success of our corporate strategies and initiatives. S/he will identify emerging industry
trends in molecular diagnostic technologies and their far reaching applications and help guide our
strategic direction accordingly.
Research and Development : The CSO will identify areas in which Evogen requires scientific
development and lead our efforts accordingly. S/he will work with the corporate development,
product management, and technology development teams to guide the choice and
implementation of core functionalities across Evogen?s platforms.
Partnerships and Outreach: The CSO will provide the scientific expertise and ongoing
leadership of high-impact relationships with clinical, commercial, academic, and government
partners. S/he will help build Evogen?s reputation and credibility in the medical and scientific
communities, where s/he will be chiefly responsible for Evogen?s vision of supporting wide
reaching analytical platforms.
In addition to requiring excellence in scientific accomplishments and leadership, this position
requires exceptional communication, relationship management, and operations skills.
Lead scientific direction of Evogen molecular diagnostic product lines and serve as primary
science resource in the company.
Lead scientific component of partnership strategy and execution. With colleagues of the management team, identify new corporate development opportunities and
pertinent collaborative partners.
Set priorities for feature development in conjunction with our scientific team and help coordinate
Develop and maintain relationships with key organizations and institutions and serve as an
executive contact for collaborative partners.
Help engage the stakeholder communities as the testing market expands.
Leverage previous work with Scientific Advisory Boards to develop and lead an SAB at Evogen.
Manage a team of research scientists, providing guidance, mentoring, and evaluation of current
staff to enable hiring of new staff when necessary.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Comprehensive knowledge and practical expertise in research and clinical applications.
Strong perspective on the future of clinical research in DNA analysis, and intuition of future
scientific approaches to analysis.
Expertise in clinical research, healthcare and regulatory requirements.
Strategic viewpoint and problem-solving and dedication to high quality outcomes.
Strong skills in management of personnel. The ability to motivate a team and keep a team
focused is important.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills; project management and
organizational skills; interaction skills with cross-functional teams.
Education and work experience
PhD or MD/PhD (preferred)
Successful academic career, as evidenced by a competitive publication record and a lasting
network of academic contacts, with emphasis on molecular diagnostics and microbiology.
Significant experience in an executive leadership position in a pertinent private sector company.
