Provide leadership, training, and guidance to all subordinate staff and assigned students in an authoritative and personable manner by being capable of performing, teaching, and monitoring with knowledge of all functions within the department.
Practice and teach good customer service skills and communication (written and oral) demonstrating respect and regard for the dignity toward visitors and employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous work environment.
Evaluate, interview and recommend new staff for employment.
Evaluate the competency of subordinate staff, complete prescribed performance evaluations and implement all HR policies to include progressive discipline when necessary to correct suboptimum performance in an appropriate and timely manner, following the appropriate chain of command when issues need to be escalated.
Write, edit, and maintain policies, procedures, forms and documents generated or used by the department and ensure effective and continuous communication to staff by utilizing computer systems, regular department meetings and one-on-one staff encounters.
Determine the necessary department workload, create staff schedules and ensure appropriate staffing at all times.
Define and monitor performance, productivity and quality assurance standards for staff to include aspects such as attendance (absences, tardiness, overtime, etc), statistics, turn-around-time, complaint resolution, client satisfaction, problem management, etc. to promote maximum productivity, proficiency and professional growth.
Maintain, teach and monitor patient confidentiality at all times.
Fiscally responsible for the department (supply usage, overtime, etc) to maintain expenses within budget, recommend ways to reduce expenditures without compromising service quality (such as creative scheduling to maximize productivity, recommending new equipment and supplies that reduce costs or enhance productivity) and prepare variance exceptions and explanations whenever a budget is exceeded.
Maintain continuous departmental readiness for unannounced inspections by various regulatory agencies (CAP, OSHA, etc) and ensure all staff follows all safety precautions.
Ensure and maintain continuing education requirements are met both for his/herself and for all staff.
