Description
CodeRytes Language Team is searching for a Clinical Coding Expert to support the development of language and coding technologies used in our products. This person will work with product development team members so that they understand how hospital based clinical coders turn the language of medical record documentation into actionable data including, but not limited to:
Identifying how clinical coders review documents, identify specific words/ language, and assign codes to represent the diagnostic and procedural concepts within the medical record documentation
Understanding the rules and complexities of inpatient and outpatient facility coding
Helping to identify the gray areas of inpatient medical and procedural ICD-9-CM coding, and where decision making may depend on multiple areas of decision making, logic, and rules interpretation
Understands relationship of coding to grouping and reimbursement and is able to differentiate sequencing of ICD-9-CM diagnosis and procedure codes to support grouping.
Understands relationship of coding to clinical documentation improvement activities in order to identify diagnostic and procedural documentation queries necessary to identify complete coding.
Interpreting how CodeRyte language technology can best be presented in working tools for inpatient coding personnel.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of inpatient medical and procedural coding in a hospital setting.
Ability to clearly communicate, as a coding expert , why something is coded a specific way, and can reference which coding guideline is used and why.
Demonstrates specific coding expertise in hospital and/or facility coding for inpatient coding.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with both engineers and business staff.
Ability to spend time with the Development Team, in person (travel may be required) and through various teleconferencing solutions whether on site, or via telephone conference call.
Ideal
Understands CodeRyte Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology, or other Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) technologies
Able to explain coding issues to non-coders
Coding experience in wide range of areas, especially hospital inpatient, outpatient, and other patient encounters.
Minimum Associate Degree and CCS, RHIT, or RHIA certification.
Understand various hospital based prospective payments systems and how appropriate coding and grouping are completed and can interpret how to best utilize computer assisted coding to accomplish accurate and efficient coding workflow.
