Clinical Systems Analyst Cogent Healthcare
The Clinical Systems Analyst works directly with hospital customers Information Technology, financial, operations and quality measurement representatives to identify sources of data within hospital systems and methods for consistently and securely exchanging data between Cogent Healthcare and the hospital. This analyst performs ad hoc analyses of clinical, financial and operational data to determine outcomes and performance trends. In addition, this position participates with other team members in performing analytics related to business and product development, special projects, and ongoing innovation.
The analyst: recommends changes in systems or processes which will improve effectiveness and efficiencies; makes decisions and recommendations which reflect appropriate level of analysis and evaluation of options; considers organization's values, priorities and related regulatory and legal requirements; relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Data Collection and Transmission Coordination
Organizes and tracks routine collection and analysis of data sets from large network of hospital customers
Works with hospital customers to explore options for sourcing and exchanging data and applies knowledge of hospital information systems to problem solve with customers
Partners with Cogent Healthcare IT integration and technical specialists to ensure that data are collected and processed in standard yet varying formats and that the data have integrity
Collaborates with all involved to promote and adhere to secure and compliant data transmission and storage processes that protect the confidentiality of the data
Assures data integrity via periodic audit procedures
Ensures consistency of data definitions, codes, classifications and terminology within area of responsibility
Works to identify new sources of data and efficient processes for transmitting and managing data as the health information technology arena evolves
Works with other members of quality and performance team to analyze clinical, financial and operational data and draw accurate and meaningful conclusions
Maintains ability to develop, administer, interpret, analyze and present financial and clinical data to include the following areas: case mix/product line reporting, payor reimbursement, DRG staging, physician practice patterns and clinical decision support.
Prepares data for analysis by linking large and varied public and private data sets, normalizing and ensuring data integrity and ultimately performing analyses on such data sets
Assures data reliability, validity and accuracy or notes variables/bias in available data
Prepares polished business, clinical, research and financial reports and presentations incorporating statistical data, use of tables, charts and graphics; clearly conveys complex ideas and data analyses
Experiments with meaningful and creative ways to compare performance of and between individual physicians, programs, and geographies
Research and Special Projects
Performs literature reviews, research of publically available data, analyses of sectors and companies and prepares summary and educational materials for consumption by colleagues and customers
Keeps abreast of trends in health care analysis and measurement and explores innovative methods that can improve our performance
Participates in and sometimes leads special projects and initiatives
Education, Training and Experience
Four year College Degree with major in Nursing, Information Technology or Business Administration
Two to Four years Information Technology experience
Three to Five years healthcare/hospital experience, including experience with Hospital Information Systems
Must be capable of operating within the technical environment of Information Services as it relates to financial and clinical decision support applications
Must be proficient in the following disciplines: clinical/financial analysis of hospital datasets; PC operation; system requirements documentation; creation and enforcement of data quality standards.
Must possess advanced skills and experience in oral and written communication, including analysis, preparation, and presentation of information.
This position has a significant customer-facing dimension: candidate must have strong and mature customer service orientation, skills, and proven track record.
Must possess a general knowledge of data processing, systems analysis, systems development, software implementation, procedure development and software support.
Expert command of Microsoft Excel to manage, link and analyze large and sometimes complex data sets; command of other Microsoft Office Suite products: Visio, Word, PowerPoint, etc
Use and development of basic SQL queries preferred
Licensure and Certifications
Nursing or other healthcare related certifications
