Description:
The Cloud Database Administrator is responsible for performance monitoring and fine tuning of the system for optimal performance, availability and security. This entails proactively planning and managing all aspects of database administration in a large scale virtualized environment. To perform development, support, integration and project delivery on large, complex database application in a distributed environment. This role involves remote dial-in support in response to routine monitoring alerts and scheduled & unscheduled tasks occurring after hours and on weekends as required. Candidates should have extensive experience writing efficient automation software and an aversion to doing the same task twice.
Responsibilities:
Install, configure and clone environments for development, testing and production in a virtualized environment for the cloud.
Manage database application for capacity, availability, performance, and data integrity
Establish and maintain appropriate database access level based to corporate security standards
Create, manage and test database backup/recovery procedures
Install and test upgrades and patches on all clustered database environments
Troubleshoot database issues; maintain database systems availability and scalability.
Review overall database usage trends and identify growth requirements
for additional hardware, software, and network resources.
Write scripts and routines to automate day-to-day administrative tasks
Ensure that all tickets are properly documented, prioritized and completed according to our Service Level Agreements.
Maintain up-to-date documentation on installation and maintenance procedures.
Evaluate products/tools and recommend technical direction
Provide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week cell phone support as part of team rotation.
Requirements:
Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or related field
7+ years relevant work experience with RDBMS (SQL Server or MySQL) in distributed environment
Demonstrated knowledge of relational data modeling and database design
Strong T-SQL skills and ability to design complex routines and triggers
Advanced analytical, troubleshooting, debugging and diagnostic skills
Experience working with load balancing technologies and large scale web server farms. Thorough grasp of web application architecture, including TCP/IP, HTTP, load balancing, caching strategies and other components
Proven expertise in backup/recovery, security/encryption and indexing/performance tuning
Experience with ETL tools, database partitioning, replication and clustering
Experience working with data warehouse administration
Experience with DOS scripting, XML and Web Services an asset
Working knowledge of ITIL and ISO27001 processes and tools
Understanding of all aspects of Software Development Lifecycle
Strong sense of ownership and accountability
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work well independently under minimum supervision and in a team environment
Ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with interdepartmental teams
Ability to make decision and work well under pressure
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to prioritize and escalate issues as needed
