Coding Compliance Auditor Cogent Healthcare

Cogent HMG is seeking a full time Coding Compliance Auditor to work in our corporate office in Brentwood, TN. The Coding Compliance Auditor, under indirect supervision, audits medical records for compliance with federal coding regulations and guidelines. They also perform coding and documentation education using a variety of formats, including onsite, classroom, telephonic and internet based applications.
Essential Functions
Audits medical record documentation to identify coding variances; prepares reports of findings.
Provides second-level review of billing performances to ensure compliance with legal and procedural policies and to ensure optimal reimbursements while adhering to regulations prohibiting unbundling and other questionable practices.
Trains, instructs, and/or provides educational support via onsite presentation, classroom, telephonic and internet based applications to medical providers regarding coding compliance documentation, regulatory provisions, and third party payer requirements.
Researches, analyzes, and responds to inquiries regarding compliance, inappropriate coding, denials, and billable services.
Interacts with physicians and other patient care providers regarding billing and documentation policies, procedures, and regulations; obtains clarification of conflicting, ambiguous, or non-specific documentation.
Trains, instructs, and/or provides technical support to medical providers as appropriate regarding coding compliance documentation, and regulatory provisions, and third party payer requirements.
Attends coding conferences, workshops, and in-house sessions to receive updated coding information and changes in coding and/or regulations.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Interacts with providers and management to review audit findings.
Ensures strict confidentiality of patient and financial records.
Education, Training and Experience
Coding Certification required (CPC, CPC-H, CCS, CCS-P)
At least 1 year experience auditing Evaluation and Management services.
Ability to clearly communicate medical coding information to professional practitioners and/or the general public in a classroom, telephonic and internet application setting.
Ability to travel to client sites for training and educational presentations (10%-20%)
Knowledge of auditing concepts and principles.
Knowledge and understanding of medical coding and billing systems and regulatory requirements.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and policy compliance issues related to medical coding and billing procedures and documentation.
Ability to work independently to analyze and solve problems.
Detailed knowledge of medical coding systems, procedures, and documentation requirements.
Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
Ability to adapt, modify and prioritize audit functions as required.
