Overview:
The Competitive Analyst provides support for Sales and Marketing by conducting competitor analysis in the broad spend management market. This role will research, analyze and develop documentation on key SciQuest competitors and will identify potential competitive threats to which the company should respond. The Competitive Analyst engages directly with Sales, Product Marketing, and Product Management functions to accurately assess competitive challenges, help define, and communicate competitive strategy. This role will also develop documentation and other types of sales and support tools to assist Sales and Partners with selling against the competition.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, customer service- oriented individual focused on meeting the needs of a growing and dynamic sales team by delivering successful competitive tools based upon timely, comprehensive market intelligence.
Principal Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough, effective analysis of SciQuest competition using sound research and field engagement practices. Perform technical analysis and review of competitive solutions.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with Sales, Product Marketing and Product Management to ensure a broad understanding of competitor information.
Ensure that competitor analysis deliverables are completed and updated on time, are easy to find, and follow established procedures and schedules.
Assist in identifying the sales and marketing organization's needs for competitor information and helps define competitive strategies.
Facilitate the development of agreed upon sales and marketing tools to ensure successful 'wins' against competitors.
Collect relevant competitive best practices from the field and facilitate knowledge sharing about competitive opportunities and their outcome.
Deliver information to internal clients in various formats including (but not limited to) competitive sales briefs, webcasts, reports and presentations.
Establish and prioritize competitor analysis responsibilities/objectives relative to field and corporate goals.
Address requests for competitive sales consultative support in developing sales strategies and proposals in a timely manner.
Gather and analyze:
Competitors? product information data with respect to their features, required additional products, optional add on products, and support/maintenance.
Competitor information on their equipment and services pricing levels, to include understanding their list pricing and average discount levels.
Competitor information on pricing strategies to include strategic opportunity pricing, unique discounts, giveaways, trade-ins, etc.
Competitor business development strategies to help understand, counteract, and perhaps emulate the competitors? successful strategies.
Competitor ?customer influence? strategies to help understand the competitors? approach to influence, change, challenge, or misdirect customers
Position Requirements:
5+ years of direct involvement in competitive analysis as their primary job function.
Industry-specific exposure to procurement processes and use of associated solutions is desirable.
Understands Software-as-a-Service or cloud-based delivery and related benefits/concerns.
Working knowledge in information systems and technologies, specifically of ERP processes and technical platforms is equally valuable.
Candidates must be willing to learn how to use solutions and identify advantages over our competitors.
Familiarity and experience with social media applications for gathering information is crucial.
Strong organization skills demonstrating the ability to retain and manage large volume of financial and technical data, and be able to quickly generate meaningful reports and summaries for senior management.
Excellent written, oral and public speaking skills are required. Familiarity with industry conference submission processes is desirable.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail is essential.
Able to build and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally, fostering a team-oriented, cross-departmental environment.
Contribute both as a team member and individual contributor.
Demonstrated success at meeting and exceeding goals on time in a fast-paced, enterprise solutions environment.
Multitasking and meeting deadlines amongst competing priorities is essential to success in this role.
Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Business or related field preferred. MBA is desirable.
Experience in strategic selling courses classes is valuable.
Must be able to travel about 10 - 20% of the time.
