Job Description:
The Director of Compliance is responsible for developing compliance policies and standards, overseeing and monitoring Atherotechs compliance activities, and achieving and maintaining compliance. The position will provide compliance guidance related to Atherotechs initiatives, policies, and procedures related to diagnostic laboratory services. The Director is responsible for working closely with Atherotech Scientific Development and Clinical Affairs, Revenue Cycle Management, Atherotech Operations (Client Services, Lab Operations, IT) and Sales and Marketing. Director will manage daily compliance operations and initiatives, provide risk assessment and conduct compliance training, audits and investigations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Build relationships with key management within all departments.
Participate on teams implementing new laboratory initiatives throughout Atherotech as Compliance Leader.
Develop a compliance audit plan and coordinate operational aspects of the compliance program with appropriate senior leaders.
Review reimbursement regulations and evaluate policies for effective compliance.
Participate in compliance management and senior level executive meetings.
Ensure regular meetings of the Compliance Committee are held to discuss identification and assessment of compliance initiatives, potential risks and current state.
Develop, implement and revise policies and procedures to comply with all applicable regulatory requirements.
Develop, coordinate and deliver training to employees on Atherotechs compliance program, policies, and other issues as identified.
Conduct compliance investigations under direction of CCO and corporate counsel.
Review current and proposed Atherotech programs, activities, services, relationships, etc. to identify and mitigate compliance risks including, but not limited to HIPAA and the Anti-Kickback Statute.
Proactively work with other Atherotech departments to address compliance issues during the initial stages of program development.
Monitor, track, and report on new and ongoing Atherotech compliance activities.
Manage day to day operation of the compliance program.
Serve as a resource to ensure that compliance issues and concerns are appropriately evaluated, investigated, and resolved.
Review contracts for compliance and privacy related issues and concerns.
Manage other projects and tasks within Compliance Department as assigned.
Experience and Skills:
Bachelors degree required; Masters or higher degree in Health Care Law, Business or Health Care a plus.
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in health care compliance with at least 3 years of leadership/management experience.
Thorough understanding of the OIGs Compliance Program Guidance for Clinical Laboratories.
Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or similar certification is preferred.
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of CPT/HCPCS and ICD-9 coding, medical records and /or claims processing required.
Experience with IT systems and personnel, in reviewing requirements, specifications, test requisitions, and test results required.
Advanced computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook required.
Strong working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care billing practices, service agreements.
Strong working knowledge of HIPAA, the False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark II Self Referral Prohibitions, and other pertinent laws, rules, best practices, and regulations
