Compute/Virtualization Engineer - US Virtustream

The xStream Platform Virtualization team is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, availability and integrity of our platform infrastructure whilst providing support to both our customers and other internal departments.
The Virtualization Engineer will report to the Director of Platform Operations
and will be responsible for supporting the xStream Platform in multiple US datacenters.
The engineer will serve as an escalation point for first-level engineers. The
Virtualization engineer is accountable for implementation, troubleshooting and
configuration of all virtualization solutions and will be focused on proactive
maintenance and support, as well as troubleshooting customer-specific
performance issues when necessary. The engineer will be required to be customer
facing and able to troubleshoot various issues with third party vendors and

Responsibilities & Functions:
Implementation of virtualization products and systems that support virtualization including all server hardware, networking and hypervisors
Stay up to date on emerging technologies and products, including attaining certifications and participation in industry events as appropriate
Bring new ideas and methodologies to improve the department
Prepare and deliver presentations to clients
Work closely with the onboarding team to provision customers onto the xStream Cloud Platform environment
Interact with customer base through a combination of ticket and telephone interaction
Works appropriate level tickets in the service desk queue
Monitor and basic maintenance of all related infrastructure
Works with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues
Help in the gathering of data for capacity planning and performance analysis of infrastructure
Develops projects to improve performance, efficiency, experience, capacity, etc. of environments
QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE - SKILLS:

Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of Virtualization and Virtual infrastructure security in general
Ability to apply sound troubleshooting methodology in order to isolate and resolve root cause of reported issues
Intermediate experience of implementing and troubleshooting vCenter and Virtual Machines
Intermediate experience of implementing and troubleshooting Virtual Networking configurations
Intermediate experience of implementing Hypervisor and Virtual Machine Storage
Advanced knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP in the virtual environment, including VLANs, routing and virtual switches
Troubleshooting of Hypervisors and Resource pool related issues
Excellent verbal and written communication across all levels of seniority and the customer base
Requires little assistance to perform duties
Escalates to senior Engineers/Architects only after developing a detailed description of issue including, but not limited to known failure points and a hypothesis for root
Exhausts all reasonable efforts to solve issues in an independent, collaborative manner prior to escalation
Ability to work some weekends and participate in an on-call rotation.
