CONTRACT - Software Engineer
Position Description:
The Software Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing embedded software for new products and new features for existing products.
Responsibilities:
? Develop software system architecture of new products or extend architecture of existing products, including selection and integration of third-party technologies, particularly open source.
? Creates high and low level design documentation utilizing Rational DOORS or other tools. Ensures requirements can be traced to system-level requirements and into system test cases.
? Develops and maintains embedded software for Linux and other mobile operating system platforms in C, C++, Java and scripting languages.
? Maintains software build environment and source code repository for assigned projects.
? Participates in design reviews and code inspections.
? May assist in development of manual and automated tests to support product test.
? Occasional travel to work with contract developers may be involved, including overseas travel.
Qualifications:
? Strong C/C++ development skills in embedded Linux environments.
? In-depth experience as a Software Engineer developing software and utilizing open source in data communications and telecommunications systems.
? Experience developing software at both the platform layer and at the application layer.
? Software configuration management skills and tools; Subversion experience preferred.
? Ability to work independently with little supervision, as well as working inclusively within a multidisciplinary or multicultural team.
? Effectively and regularly communicates with direct management and project team, as appropriate.
? Strong background in developing software implementing communication protocols.
? Industry experience with VoIP/SIP a strong plus.
? Ability to read and understand schematics to translate hardware architecture into software requirements a plus.
? Experience developing web user interfaces including HTML, CSS, Javascript and XML a plus.
? Programming skills in Python and shell scripting a plus.
? Mobile application development experience on iPhone, Android and/or Blackberry platforms a plus.
Minimum Experience:
? 5+ years of embedded, open source software development experience, preferably in a data communications/telecommunications environment ;
