Headquartered in Davis, CA and venture capital-backed, Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI), discovers, develops, and markets effective and environmentally responsible natural products for pest management in ag and water.
Provide leadership and coordination of company financial planning, debt financing, and budget management functions. Ensures company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles.
Responsibilities and Duties
Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments
Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, cost accounting, and operations
Develop, improve and issue timely monthly financial records for Financial Director, CFO and Board of Directors
Assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals
Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate company ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, products costing, etc. when necessary
Manage commercial banking relationships to facilitate an appropriate credit resource under highly competitive terms
Interface with outside audit firms(s), banks and lessors, and casualty/liability insurance agent(s)
Provide a visionary and leadership implementation role on behalf of Finance to all departments, creating a well-respected and sought after department goal
Report to the Board of Directors when necessary in writing and verbally
Bring the company up to SOX compliance and for SEC quarterly reporting if the company goes down this path
Train, supervise, and evaluate department staff
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Characteristics
Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis, must also have knowledge of GAAP.
Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
Public company SEC reporting is a must, including 10K, 10Q etc. and SOX compliance experience.
Consolidation of multiple subsidiaries.
Consolidation of foreign subsidiary.
Familiarity with transfer pricing & FX.
Big 4 experience a plus.
A combination of completion of Master Degree in Finance or Accounting, five to ten years of experience in a senior level finance or accounting position and a CPA license is required.
Essential Physical & Mental Functions
It is critical that the person performing this duty has a great attention to detail and is able to concentrate for long periods of time and produce very high quality work product needing minimal review by management but also is a good communicator internally and externally. There will be periods of intensity and potentially long hours at peak times, particularly during the preparation of the financial statements and associated reports for presentation to the Board of Directors and investors. The Controller must use the utmost discretion in all presentations/correspondence and communication for staff, Board of Directors and Executive Director.

Ability to continually improve knowledge and understanding of accounting standards and stay abreast of ever changing reporting requirements

Ability to travel overnight 5% to 10% of the time
The salary range is competitive.
