The Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA) is seeking to hire a qualified candidate who will be responsible for all financial reporting, accounting and HR/IT administration for the organization. This absolute hands-on position requires an individual who is a self-starter willing to roll-up their sleeves and serve as an integral member of a small team of professionals responsible for delivering services and programs in an entrepreneurial high tech and private investment community, through a membership-based non-profit platform.

The nature of the work requires a candidate experienced and comfortable in working at a dynamic pace and within a small group environment where all take a hands-on approach. Desired candidates will possess demonstrated skills in the core competencies listed below, and will also bring to the organization a proven track record of successfully operating both independently and collaboratively with staff and constituents.
Key technical attributes include comprehensive knowledge of accounting, audit, financial analysis, aptitude for technology, and operations management of a small enterprise (e.g., Administration, HR).
Key non-technical attributes of the successful candidate will include a results-oriented attitude, exceptional communication skills, a strong ability to deliver top customer service, and a demonstrated track record of effectively working in a small-organization environment, as an integral, contributing operational team member.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the organization, working closely with her to achieve the short and long-term goals of the organization by providing planning, analysis, financial reporting, and day-to-day operational needs for this membership-based organization.

--Competency and accountability for the core responsibilities as outlined below:
Responsibilities, including but not limited to
--Performing all day-to-day accounting activities:
o Accounts payable and receivable processing
o Vendor management and on-going support of program staff's vendor selection
o Invoicing, credit and collections activities
--General ledger and month-end close activities including maintenance of detailed account reconciliations to support internal analysis and external audits, as well as serve real-time reporting needs.
o Budget/Reporting using Quickbooks accounting system (legacy system is Netsuites)
o Leading and completing the annual budget process
o Generating financial and cash flow statements, analysis and forecasting
o Internal and external financial and management reporting accurately and on a timely basis
--Annual sourcing and renewal of corporate insurances of all types
--Conduct annual audit by an independent outside accounting firm, and coordination and management of state and federal tax return preparation
--Manage all HR/IT Administration including
o Payroll processing
o Benefits accounting
o Benefits audits (workers compensation, 401 k, etc.)
--Compliance with all state and federal employment requirements
--Day-to-day responsibility for maintaining all banking and treasury functions
--Administration and monitoring of company policies and procedures
--Oversight and safe-guard company assets
o Development and monitoring of internal controls systems and processes
o Compliance with all state and federal employment, tax and filing requirements
--Ability to review, assess, recommend and institute best-practices as necessary for creating the most effective financial function for the organization
--Minimum of 7+ years financial, accounting and operations experience, inclusive of 4-5 years commercial work experience in a similar hands-on role, providing direct support to management.
--BS/BA with a concentration in accounting preferred.
--Certified Public Accountant certification helpful, but not required.
--Non-profit experience desired, but not required if commercial experience is commensurate. Strong working knowledge of GAAP and preferred 4-5 years of experience working with external auditors and/or tax experts to complete year-end audits and income tax filings.
--Tech savvy and adept at new technology adoption a plus. Interest in managing (as well as implementing, assessing, and integrating) IT/ ERP/CMR systems and future integration projects as needed for the organization.
--Competency in budgeting and financial analysis.
--Ability to extract and create reports sourced from a variety of sources, potentially including CRM data sets, event registration systems, credit card payments, etc.
--Proficiency with QuickBooks, Excel and PowerPoint
