In this position, you will be responsible for directing all financial accounting and treasury functions, including but not limited to general ledger, payroll, cash management, government grants and risk management. Principal responsibilities include:
Direct all aspects of general accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable and payroll. Ensure timely monthly closes of the general ledger. Research, analyze and document technical accounting pronouncements and emerging issues as they pertain to the Company.
Responsible for all internal financial reporting, including monthly and quarterly financial statements (internal and board of directors' packages), vacation/sick leave and other related internal reports as required. Provide supporting schedules and/or reports for external reporting, as needed.
Responsible for the Company's continued compliance under Sarbanes-Oxley, as required, for key processes.
Direct all aspects of equity administration, including but not limited to the Company's stock option plans and employee stock purchase plan. Ensure plan and plan reserves are reconciled with Company's transfer agent on a regular and timely basis.
Direct the Company's treasury function ensuring operating accounts are properly funded. Ensure continued compliance with commercial bank reporting covenants. Periodically assess the Company's investment policy and ensure Asset Manager's compliance with such policy.
Direct the Company's payroll function ensuring the timely and accurate regular and special payroll processing. Coordinate through payroll service provider to ensure compliance with all statutory filings.
Manage the Company's revenue function, including timely invoicing and collection of revenues from corporate collaborations and government grants, if applicable.
Direct and manage all aspects the Company's tax reporting function ensuring timely and accurate regulatory filings. Direct and coordinate with the Company's tax advisors on all related aspects including tax provision and other matters as required.
Direct, manage and coordinate annual audits with both external corporate auditors and government grant and other audits as required.
Perform special projects as requested.
Requires a BA/BS in Accounting/Finance and a minimum of 10 years related financial accounting experience. Also requires previous experience at the corporate controller level required and CPA with "big four" experience and public biotechnology or biopharmaceutical company experience. Energetic, flexible team player and hands-on leader with the ability to manage in a dynamic environment. Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with external parties and all levels of staff. Time management, organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize essential. Must have a thorough understanding of technical accounting pronouncements, particularly as they relate to revenue recognition and stock option accounting. Requires proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
